The Boys' Club: A Double-Paged Wedding Scrapbook Layout

The Boy's Club: A Double-Paged Wedding Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland

Weddings are mostly for the bride, right?  Deciding on a decor theme, colors, cake flavor, location--the brides are mostly making the decisions.  The brides are the ones who mostly care about photos of the wedding day, the favors you give your guests, the dance music...

I'm happy to say my brother-in-law, Alex, was not your stereotypical groom-to-be.  He was right there with my sister, Caitlin, helping her make decisions from the decor to music for the ceremony and reception to the favors.  He was excited to go cake tasting and to help choose a DJ.  When my sister and I would have planning meetings, he was right there with us.

I knew then that Alex would always take care of my sister no matter what.  That he was interested in what she was interested in and that they were partners in decision making matters.  And this makes me immeasurably happy.

Silly Boys: A Wedding Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland | A fun and fresh take matches the mood of the photos and keeps the layout from being too feminine while featuring the men of the bridal party.
Alex and his best man are goofing off before the wedding so I titled this page "Silly Boys." I also thought the man cave sign with deer head were perfect for this page.

Celebrate: A Handmade Pink Peony Birthday Card

As an avid amateur gardener, I adore flowers!

day lily, rose, hydrangea, anemone poppy, poppy flower, gladiolus, flowers, floral, gardening, plants, planting, photography, yellow rose
Here is just a smattering of what was in my gardens this past summer.  From left to right:  Star City Celebration Day Lily, Heirloom yellow rose (planted by my Opa many years ago), Bobo Hydrangea, Purple-Blue Anemone Poppy with Pink Peruvian Lily (Alstroemeria) in the background, White and Pink Gladiolus.
All year long I dream of flowers, especially during the long, cold months.  I especially like taking photos of my flowers all summer long and posting them on my personal Facebook page.  This past fall I planted over 100 spring bulbs and even bought two greenhouses with peat pots and a warming mat to give me that gardening fix during the winter.  So needless to say, I enjoy incorporating flowers into my crafting projects.  Those that read my blog often or follow my social accounts know there is hardly a project I make that doesn't include at least one flower.

The Little Mermaid: A Mixed Media Photo Disc Case + Freebie

scrapbook, scrapbooking, mixed media, paper crafting, mermaid, ocean, sea, seahorse, flowers, baby, infant, handmade, custom, freebie, free cut file, coral, seaweed, distress ink, Prima, Tim Holtz, stamping

I just love getting co-op work from my photographer cousin, Kelly.  Her and her husband's photos are amazing and I get to see beautiful blushing brides, sweet infants and darling 1-year-olds covered in cake and frosting.  The best photos to work with are those with obvious themes.  Recently, I created a custom disc case for an adorable baby girl in a cute little crocheted mermaid set.

Prima, Prima Marketing, Julie Nutting, stamping, mermaid, mermaid stamp, Sea Sallie, ocean, sea

Julie Nutting, courtesy of Prima Marketing.
As soon as Kelly told me about the upcoming newborn shoot and the plans for the mermaid outfit, I knew exactly how I wanted to decorate the custom disc case.  Prima has a line of doll stamps and pieces designed by Julie Nutting that are absolutely wonderful and one of her stamps was a mermaid.  It had been a while since it had come out and it was sold at any of my usual scrapbook store haunts so I took to searching online and I was in luck!

I started by cutting out the base pieces for the custom disc case:  two pieces of chipboard, 2 pieces of cardstock to cover the chipboard on the inside and the outside cover; then I glue the pieces together using an artist medium such as gesso or modeling paste.  I usually set the whole thing in-between pieces of parchment or wax paper and then in-between some heavy books to make sure it dries without warping or wrinkling.

Adventure is Calling: A Vintage Styled Travel Scrapbook Layout

adventure, travel, sunset, scrapbook, handmade, flowers, stickers, chipboard, brads, garland, banner, pennants, arrows, California, buttons, sequins, paper crafts, scrapbooking

I just love a beautiful sunset.  Here in Bronco Country, we cherish them.  It's why the Denver Bronco's colors are orange and blue.  But I will take a gorgeous sunset anywhere and as a traveler, I've seen sunsets all over the world, including Washington D.C.; Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; Aukland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia!

My sister and brother-in-law captured some pretty amazing northern California coastline sunsets while on a trip a few years back.  I've really enjoyed scrapping these photos and finding papers and embellishments to match.

First I started with a piece of patterned paper and using a stencil, I applied modeling paste to the center of the page.  I then misted and dripped on Prima Color Bloom mists in golden hues and also a little bit of Marion Smith Designs Color Lab in corvette.

Tea for Two: A Handmade Bridal Shower Card

tea, tea party, handmade, paper crafts, card, handmade card, macarons, vintage, distress ink, spoons, teacups, scrapbooking

I've now thrown two tea party bridal showers with the help of some wonderful family members.  But the one thing I know I can do all on my own is creating a handmade card for the bride-to-be.  My bonus sister (so much more pleasant and fun to say than step-sister!) is a fun loving, yet sophisticated and intelligent young woman.  Carmella requested a garden tea party themed bridal shower and so I of course had to make a card that matched!

Thank You a Latte: A Handmade Thank You Card

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything on my blog.  I feel like everything always happens all at once.  I accepted a freelance video editing job, I was building a website for my flute choir (yes, flute choir is still a thing), our bathroom is in the midst of a remodel and there were delays because things ended up having to be special ordered, my grandmother's roof has a leak but now it really turns out the exhaust hose to the furnace came unattached and is spewing carbon monoxide into her attic (this was taken care of ASAP!), Honda has had it's third recall on the driver's side airbag of my grandmother's car (for crying out loud, Honda, is too much to ask that you get it right the first time around?!), my windshield needed replacing, my mom's transmission still needs work, now my grandmother's windshield needs replacing, I've had to get a flat tire patched on my car and then ended up replacing it after it ended up with a nail in the sidewall, my dad is constantly bothering me about coming over to get his mail at my house even though he knows I'm hardly ever home ("Why hasn't he gotten all of it transferred over to his house yet?," you ask.  I can't answer that one for you because I. literally. don't. know. the. answer. to that one.), rehearsals for band and flute choir started in earnest, birthdays and birthdays galore (sister, mom, me, friends, cousin, sister, more friends…), gardening at 2 houses, landscaping (I've been on my own for this one), I've been making  accessories for my Halloween costume because my flute choir is getting dressed up in costume for our Halloween concert, now I have to make stand decorations and flute/piccolo costumes!  Oh my gosh it's never ending!!!!

I know just about everyone loves the beginning of fall--the leaves turn pretty colors, the cool crisp air (yeah, we've been lacking on both of those until just recently…thanks, climate change…), everything turns into pumpkin spice (thanks, Starbucks, for ruining the PSL** now  I have to make my own), wearing scarves, pulling out your favorite coat, etc., etc.

This week's Shadowhunters Fan Art Friday (#SHFanArtFriday) subject is the spooky but helpful shadowhunter "librarians," the Silent Brothers of the Silent City (#FanArtFridaySilentBrothers).  In Cassandra Clare's book The City of Bones, the Silent Brothers seem to give our young shadowhunter characters nightmares.  As Jace says so candidly in the first book
"I don't hate them, I'm afraid of them.  It's not the same thing."
Simon responds with the whitty retort of
"Those must be some killer late fees."
Oh, Simon!  I just love your one liners!

If you've noticed, I've been a little silent on my blog lately.  That's because I haven't been able to get much scrapbooking done and it's not because I've been super busy.  It's because the power cord to my Silhouette Cameo shorted out.

Now that I have my new power cords (yes, you red that correctly--I purchased 2 replacement power cords) SAFELY in my hands, I feel it is now appropriate to blog about my experience with Silhouette America's customer service.

Don't get me wrong, I love my Silhouette Cameo!  I love it so much that I thought I was going to die they past week without it.  But Silhouette America's customer service is (excuse my foul mouth) CRAP!

My power cord got a short just above where it goes into the AC box.  After trying hours of trying to tape it just so I could get one project done, the cord broke cleanly in half.

After about an hour of attempting to stabilize the short in my power cord with  electrical tape, the cord broke cleanly in half and I gave up in a fit of tears.  After calming myself down a bit, I went to the Silhouette America site looking for a link to order a replacement part.  I searched and searched and searched and couldn't find a single page that would lead me to buying a replacement power cord.

Flute Choir Extravaganza: Crafting for a Music Party

Yes.  Flute Choir is a thing.  If you have never been to a flute choir concert, you should attend one because they are amazing!  I'm not just saying this because I myself am a "flutie" or because I am a member of the Pikes Peak Flute Choir, but because they truly are amazing.

Flying High at 95: A Handmade Tag for a Birthday Celebration

tag, handmade, custom, yellow, distress ink, fossilized amber, Tim Holtz, scrapbooking, flowers, crinkle ribbon, hot air balloon, vintage, shabby chic, birthday, celebration, party, pearls, mixed media

If you read my blog regularly, you know about the difficult relationship my Oma (grandmother) and I have. I won't rehash it here, but if you missed my previous blog posting detailing some of the issues my Oma and I have had, read my post entitled "The Vintage Wedding Scrapbook Layout that Almost Wasn't."

Despite our issues, I love my Oma dearly and in just over a month, she will be turning 95!  My mom and I have been searching for a fun party theme for a bit and I kept coming across these vintage hot air balloon models that I have fallen in love with.  I decided a "Flying High at 95!" theme with vintage hot air balloons would be fun.

tag, handmade, custom, yellow, distress ink, fossilized amber, Tim Holtz, scrapbooking, flowers, crinkle ribbon, hot air balloon, vintage, shabby chic, birthday, celebration, party, pearls, mixed media

I also recently purchased Tim Holtz's new Distress Ink of April 2015, fossilized amber, and have been itching to use it.  I just love this color as it reminds me of all the pretty amber jewelry for sale in the markets of Prague, Chez Republic, Budapest, Hungary and Krakow, Poland.  I was able to travel to Austria and parts of Eastern Europe with the Colorado Springs Youth Symphony, playing concerts and sightseeing.  It's one of my favorite memories as I felt really connected to my Austrian and Chez roots.

Hummingbirds are Buzzing: A Handmade Mother's Day Card

For those of you that have been following me on social media (especially Instagram) for a while know that I love to garden.  I didn't realize how enjoyable it was until we landscaped my mother's front yard.  When I first planted all those day lilies and the lilac bush I though, "Gee, I hope I don't kill all these plants we just spent a ton of money on!"  Fortunately, I inherited my grandfather's green thumb and my plants flourished--including the rose bush my grandfather planted back in the 60s!

scrapbooking, card making, handmade, custom, bird, hummingbird, flower, lily, tiger lily, Mother's Day, garden, gardening, paper crafts

Ever since that fateful summer three years ago, I've been enjoying my time spent outdoors, pruning and weeding and watering.  I spend so much of my time out at my grandmother's helping to take care of her now, my mom and I decided to turn her garden back into an actual garden for Mother's Day.

I've recently expanded my mixed media techniques from the 12x12 scrapbook page to handmade cards.  So I made a special card for my mom for Mother's Day.  I figure a woman who moves into her elderly mother's house to take care of her mom, gives up her life and worldly possessions while still working a day job, deserves a very special Mother's Day card!

I started with a kraft base to the card then layered on a blue moorish tile patterned paper from Glitz Designs's Color Me Happy 8x8 paper stack.  From there I began layering on gesso, crackle, stamps, gelatos, chalk ink and embossing powder.

April is a very busy month for birthdays in my family.  I was literally making cards all month long!  Now that that May is finally here, I can share them all with you!

First I'll start with my dad's birthday card.  My dad works for the local Coca-Cola warehouse so I used my Silhouette to create this cute Coke can card!

Coca-Cola, handmade, card, card making, paper crafting, birthday, soda, cola, pop

Coca-Cola, handmade, card, card making, paper crafting, birthday, soda, cola, pop
I used some Bazzill silver foil cardstock as well as various grey and red cardstocks.  I found a Coca-Cola look alike font for free online and downloaded it to use for the "Happy" text on the front of the card.  On the inside of the card is " Happy Birthday to the one and only original Pop!"  I used my Silhouette sketch pens to write it in.  My mom came up with the sentiment, saying, "I know it's a bit cheesy, but I think your dad will appreciate it!"

Next are the two birthday cards for my brother-in-law, Alex.  One card I made for my sister, Caitlin, to give to her husband and the other was from my mom and I.

Harmonize: A Music Themed Engagement Scrapbook Layout

A while back I created a layout using one of my sister's engagement photos that I took.  I submitted the layout to Archiver's "Make, Share, Win" contest.  And though I didn't win, I did get featured as an inspirational project!  Now that that contest is long past, I'm sharing the layout on my own blog!

My sister's husband loves to play guitar and so I definitely wanted to feature him playing it in at least one or two of the photos we took for their then engagement.  I purchased and cut out a guitar die cut from Silhouette to go with the photo and layered on lots of vintage-themed papers from Prima's Something Blue collection.  I even used thread to string the guitar to make it look more realistic!

Thinking of You Handmade Sympathy Card

I love making scrapbook pages but I also enjoy making handmade cards.  I mostly make them for family members (birthdays, mother's day, etc.), but I also make a few on behalf of the music groups I'm in--The Little London Winds and The Pikes Peak Flute Choir (yes, there are many flute choirs in this world!).  Every once in a while someone has a loss in the family or a baby is born and there's nothing quite like receiving a handmade card on those occasions.  It's a gesture that really lets the recipient know you are truly thinking about him or her.

Most recently there was a loss in the family of one of my fellow musicians.  Sympathy cards can sometimes be hard.  What do you say?  What image on the front of the card would bring them just a moment of happiness or hope for peace in the future?

I added the same flowers to this page but skimped on the pleated tulle.  I'm going to save the rest of that tulle for some bride photos!

Pretty Little Liars, party, watch party, Big A Reveal, Who is A?, Charles is A, Oreo truffles, bullseye, killer popcorn, dirt and worms, A cupcakes, kisses, The Brew Ice Cream, bloody steaks, food, dessert table, snack table

Hello, all!  I hope you enjoyed the Pretty Little Liars inspired tAgs step-by-step photo tutorial! If you haven't seen it yet, make sure to check it out!  This blog post will be devoted to the food we served at our Season 5 finale watch pArty.  Hope you find some inspiration for your next PLL themed party or season 6 watch party.

First I'd like to share the fun idea my mom came up with.  We had an empty large square vase with dirt in it (I'm sad to say my green thumb does not extend to indoor succulent gardening--I killed them all!) and she found a tool in the garage that closely resembled the Boo Boo's Ice Cream ice pick.  She embedded it in the dirt and added some red carnation blooms and some vines cut from one of my grandmother's plants.  We left it in the entryway to welcome my sister and her husband to the pArty in only a way A can!

I only have a few television shows that I obsess about and I must admit, Pretty Little Liars is one of them!  March 24th was the Season 5 finale with the #bigAreveal and I spent the entire week leading up to the episode in endless hours of neuron exploding thought trying to figure out who A is.  And even after the episode I'm still left wondering which actor on the show is Charles (#CharlesIsA)…PLL writers, you are frying my brain!

Even though it was only going to be myself, my mom, my sister and her husband watching the show, I still wanted to do something fun!  (I know, right!?  My sister's husband is so nice to sit with a bunch of girls and watch the show!)

So I set to work making some really cute "tAgs" inspired by A messages to go with the food.  Warning:  A sometimes uses "unsavory language" so the pictures may contain a choice word or two!

Always & Forever: A Wedding Scrapbook Page

scrapbooking, custom scrapbook, wedding, love, ampersand, die cut, tulle, flowers, poppies, roses, paperclip, chalkboard, Prima Marketing, Maya Road

Hello, all!  I recently received my Prima Marketing March Special Delivery, The Bright Side, in the mail and couldn't wait to use it!  (Prima, you have got to stop doing this to me!  Two kits in a row that match my sister's wedding colors…I just can't resist!)

For my sister's wedding reception, I decorated an ampersand with paint, flowers, crinkle ribbon and the like and we tied it to the happy couple's chairs.  So I matched the tulle with a little bit of gathered tulle trim around the photo mat.  I also used some vellum to create the large ampersand in the background then mirrored it with a Maya Road ampersand paperclip.

Hello, my friends!  Spring is in the air...unfortunately it's a little too seasonably warm for Colorado.  April is usually our snowiest month and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and kill my flowers that are starting to wake up and grow a tad bit too early.  So in hopes that all that hard work I did 2 summers ago landscaping my mother's front yard and 2 summers worth of nurturing those flowers doesn't go to waste, I created a layout featuring my sister's wedding bouquet!

Caitlin's wedding was a Hillside Gardens, a little eclectic community garden with a wonderful view of Pikes Peak and lots of statues and vintage typewriters and the like scattered around the gardens.  Our cousin, the wedding photographer, got a lovely shot of the bouquet on a vintage truck and a vintage toy wagon.

Hello, all!  I've got another pretty layout for you, this time in shades of blue.  I mixed up Corvette, a bright blue, from Marion Smith Designs Color Lab a few weeks ago with ocean themed layouts in mind and this past weekend I mixed up Monterey, a pretty teal, just for this page.

And Then She…: A Scrapbook Layout for CSI

Thanks for stopping by my blog!  I've been scrapping up a storm again lately and I've already finished up another page for a challenge.  This time it's for Color Stories Inspiration case file #158.  I really enjoyed this challenge as it gave me a chance to use some of my patterned paper stash.  The pastels were perfect for the Pink Paislee Color Wash collection!

Soft pastels and a cool brown create the base of this layout.  Layers of gesso and embellishments accent the photo.

I used just a thin wash of gesso over the background then spritzed and dripped some color mists on top of that.  I added a bit of a background stamp then used my Silhouette and sketch pens to do some journaling.  Finally I layered on my embellishments including a sweet little vellum pouch from Studio Calico filled with sparkly sequins!

Dreams are What You Make Them: An Ephemera Scrapbook Layout

Hello, all!  I spent the whole afternoon working on a scrapbook layout and thought I would post it!  I made this layout for the CSI case file no. 157.

I'm never big on selfies as I like being behind the camera better than being in front of it but every once in a while I'll turn the camera on myself. It was one of the journaling challenges at CSI this month and it really puts me out of my comfort zone. Especially since this is a photo of me with my hair just thrown up in a messy pony tail on a lazy afternoon.

Love this Family: A Scrapbook Layout

Hello, my friends!  I hope this week has been kind to you.  I had my very first jury duty experience this week.  I've received notices before but this was the first time I actually had to appear at the courthouse.  It was really an easy day as several of the scheduled trials were resolved out of court or postponed for one reason or another.  Only a handful of jurors out of over 200 required to show up were selected and I'm glad I wasn't one!  It was a good way for me to dip my feet into the experience without having to go all the way.  I admit that sometimes I'm a bit timid about new things--though my mom might say I was pretty angry the night before about having to show up.

It did put a kink not only in my weekly schedule, but my 94-year-old grandmother's.  Any change in her schedule really messes her up.  She gets so confused and sometimes belligerent.  And I was upset that it took me away from my scrapbooking just when my

Hello and happy weekend, everyone!  Late Friday night I finished up one of my most favorite layouts to date.  My mom and I just couldn't stop staring at it and I can't wait for my sister to see it in person.

Hello, everyone!  Thanks for visiting my blog.  I've scrapped another lovely layout using the Scrap Around the World March 2015 mood board challenge.

Scrap Around the World mood board challenge March 2015

This time my layout features an absolutely adorable photo of my puppy, Magnus.  In this photo he is 2 months old.  I had just picked him up the day before and he was happily getting to know his world, though he didn't stray far from my side.

My how things have changed!  He is now 8 months old and he loves to run around outside so much I have to leash him out at my grandmother's in the country.  He is still very attached and I have a hard time getting out the door without him trying to follow me.  When I leave for music rehearsals in the evening and leave him with my mother, he cries for a few minutes after I leave.  If I ever get a full time, regular job again, it will have to be one where I can bring him to work or bring him into work!
