Mixed Media: A Handmade Mother's Day Card

I've recently expanded my mixed media techniques from the 12x12 scrapbook page to handmade cards.  So I made a special card for my mom for Mother's Day.  I figure a woman who moves into her elderly mother's house to take care of her mom, gives up her life and worldly possessions while still working a day job, deserves a very special Mother's Day card!

I started with a kraft base to the card then layered on a blue moorish tile patterned paper from Glitz Designs's Color Me Happy 8x8 paper stack.  From there I began layering on gesso, crackle, stamps, gelatos, chalk ink and embossing powder.

I also used crackle on a doily to layer under all the flowers.  I chose to use only coral and teal flowers, coloring one of the white flowers coral with Prima's Color Bloom spray in peony.  I also colored some Tim Holtz crinkle ribbon with Marion Smith Designs Color Lab in merlot and Prima's Color Bloom spray in peony.

I used a metallic melon colored gelato to tint the resin feather, added on a decorative brad and enamel dots from MME, a few Queen & Co. quartz stones in teal and some Bloom Impression stamens in pearl from Marion Smith Designs.  The saying was cut out from the same Glitz Design paper pad that the background paper came from.  At the very end, I used my Tim Holtz airbrush tool and my Distress Marker in picket fence to add some spritzes of white to the whole card.

On the inside of the card I used my Silhouette sketch pens to write in a Mother's Day salutation on a piece of white cardstock, leaving plenty of room for my grandmother, sister, brother-in-law and I to all sign!
