Little Moments: A Maternity Scrapbook Layout

The Little Moments | A Scrapbook Layout by AlThe Little Moments | A Maternity Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderlandice Scraps Wonderland

One of the joys of scrapbooking is the being able to scrap for others.  It is exciting to interact with clients, learn about their likes and preferences and then create something you know they will cherish forever. It's also fun to see their family grow up over time, whether it's in just one album or with a long-term client who sends you photos every month or so to work on.  This particular client has three gorgeous little girls and each one is getting a scrapbook of photos from mom's pregnancy and on.

Scrapping for others also allows me to create several different styles and stretch my creativity.  For my own family, I do a lot of vintage and shabby chic layouts.  For this client's layout, I went with a more modern style--bright colors, bold patterns and a splash of mixed media. I picked up on colors from the mom's outfits in the photos for color inspiration too.

A splash of mixed media and some colorful and boldly patterned papers make for a fun modern layout.

I love layering papers!  Did I mention I'm a paper and cardstock addict?  I'm literally drowning in it and I look at some papers and say, "But you are just too pretty to cut into!"  Luckily, I always end up finding the perfect project for it down the road.  It's kismet!  Nothing goes to waste in my scrap room, not even packaging, scraps or color mists.  I always have white paper flowers on hand to soak up excess color mists and inks from my non-stick craft mat.

But back to this layout.  I used my Silhouette Cameo to add journaling after creating a mixed media background and then began layering on my papers, distressing the edges a bit for texture and depth.  I also added on some stickers for the title as well as a cute little butterfly sticker and enamel glitter dots.

To add just a bit more sparkle, I used my Wink of Stella glitter brush pen to add some glimmer to the clipboard I fussy cut out of some paper.  I also added a little bit of glossy accents to the camera on the clipboard.

So Happy: A Wedding Scrapbook Page

Alice Scraps Wonderland | So Happy: A Wedding Scrapbook Page

Today's scrapbooking is a hybrid of the traditional with a mix of art techniques.  It's not just cutting some paper and slapping on some photos--it's an art form.  One of the questions I routinely get asked by my clients are "Do you have those fun scissors that cut the cool edges?"  The answer to that question is, "Yes, I do, but I don't really use them anymore now that I have a machine that cuts my paper for me."  For those that scrap, we know these machines as die cut machines.

Alice Scraps Wonderland | So Happy: A Wedding Scrapbook Page | Die Cut Machines
Die cut machines come in a variety of styles--from electronic to hand crank to metal die wafers to downloadable cut files.  Machines from top left to bottom right:  Cricut Explore, Sizzix Big Shot Pro, Spellbinders Amaze, Spellbinders Platinum, Silhouette America Cameo, Tim Holtz Vagabond.

There are so many tools to create pages these days, it can be overwhelming.  Just in die cut machines alone, there are those you can purchase die cut files online to use, others that you have to buy physical metal dies for, some that plug in and you push a button to start cutting and other that you crank by hand to cut.  But the result is lovely no matter the machine you own and it makes the possibilities endless.

Besides die cut machines there are paper trimmers, paper distressers, stamps, paper flower shapers, typewriters that fit a 12x12 page and have dual colored ink ribbons, multimedia sewing machines that make it easy to sew paper, heat guns and a whole host of other tools.

Bright Cupcake: A Sweet Handmade Birthday Card

Birthday card, cupcake, handmade, scrapbooking, paper crafts, flowers, lace, pearls, vintage

It's been a while since I've done a blog post.  It has been just over a year since my Oma passed away and we have now sold both family homes, purchased a new build and have finally moved in!  In the move we got rid of a lot of the old furniture since we had to put everything into storage for 3 months so I ended up having to get some new storage for my crafting supplies (I'll be doing a blog post about this later).  Now that everything is finally set up I can get back to crafting.  In the meantime, I'll be sharing some of my older creations.

I made this sweet little card for my sister last year.  It is inspired by a similar card I found online.  Her favorite color is purple so I made sure to use lots and lots of purple on her card.  She also loves vintage style so I used vintage patterned papers, some lace, melange, sequins and black pearls.

2015 Distress Ink Labels

Tim Holtz, Distress Ink, 2015, labels, DIY storage solution, DIY, storage, scrapbooking, card making

I wanted to get these out sooner but with my grandmother going into hospice at the beginning of the year and her subsequent passing, it made it nearly impossible to update my Distress Ink labels to include Tim Holtz's amazing 12 new colors of 2015.  From Cracked Pistachio to Candied Apple, Tim Holtz has done it again...and I've got a label for each!  (I have to say, I really love Cracked Pistachio and Abandoned Coral--two of my favorite colors!)

So without further ado, here is the updated file!  Just click the image below to download both the 2015 Addendum as well as the original color labels through 2014!

Siren's Song: A Fish Tale

scrapbooking, scrapbook, custom, mixed media, ocean, beach, mermaid, sea, embossing, distress ink, crinkle ribbon, glitter, druzy, stamping, stenciling

Okay, story time--I have a little "Scrap Rehab" confession.  I know, I know...I'm not looking to be cured of the creative paper bug.  But seriously.  Let's be frank.  We all have our scrapbooking obsessions...like paper hoarding [insert shifty eyes here] or embellishment hoarding...or the "I must have every Tim Holtz Distress Ink under the sun and I so fought off the lady next to me in the local scrapbooking supply store for January 2015's color of the month Cracked Pistachio and I'm proud of it!"  Or the surreptitiously wiping the drool from your keyboard or touchscreen after viewing the latest Prima flower confections.

My mom would say I'm guilty of paper hoarding.  I always say you can never have enough of it and sure...there are some that are just too pretty to cut into--like Basic Grey's Out of Print collection.  And yes...I "hoard" some embellishments; but really, I'm just waiting for the perfect project to use them on, I swear!  No I did not fight off anyone in my local scrapbook store to get Cracked Pistachio but I waited around 3 months for the darn ink color to be in stock on any, and I mean ANY online store or local shop's shelves.  When I had it it my hands, along with Abandoned Coral I nearly cried with joy.  (Tim Holtz, you are a genius and I tip my hat to you.)  And I try not to drool on my keyboard every time Prima releases new paper flowers...or buy up every single KaiserCraft paper flower color under the sun...or add every Petaloo flower to my wish list.  Yes!  I have a paper flower problem, okay!?  I have a ba-gillion flower die cut files for my Silhouette too and I could literally make them until my fingers bleed...
