Sometimes you need a handful of sparkly beads and jewels in your life to brighten your day.

Welcome back to another Mixed Media Monday! Today I've altered one half of a round brie box into a shaker full of loose beads and jewels that make such a wonderful sound when you gently shake or turn the box.

I started this project out by selecting some resin pieces that I created from a mould--a giant flourish. This particular piece is done in 3 parts because of it's size, but I wanted to create a base for it since it would be hanging off the side of the brie box.

I arranged the pieces on some watercolor cardstock and traced them to create a backing. I also measured the brie box to create circle frame out of watercolor cardstock, a circle out of acetate for the window, and a circle of patterned paper from Prima's Watercolor Floral line for the inside of the box.

Next, I painted the resin pieces and the box with a layer of white gesso. I then added a wash of white impasto paint to the box and then dry brushed on purple impasto paint. For the resin pieces, I glued them to the watercolor cardstock and then painted the pieces with some opal magic acrylic paint. I also brushed a little of the opal magic paint in spots onto the brie box as well.

Once that was dry, I glued the patterned paper to the inside of the box and then used foam adhesive to add some ephemera pieces and a puffy sticker sentiment. I splattered the elements inside the box with a bit of watered down opal magic paint. Then I added a handful of Reneabouquets Beautiful Beads in Moonstone as well a few purple crystals from Pinkfresh. I glued the acetate to the watercolor cardstock frame that I painted like the box, then glued the two pieces onto the box, closing it up and creating the shaker element.

I then added touches of white matte wax to the resin pieces and glued the entire piece down on the front of the box. Finally, I added layers of paper flowers, ephemera, a metal succulent from Finnabair (that I added touches of an opal magic wax to), flower stamens, gems and a beautiful butterfly from Reneabouquets

I really love how this turned out. I even put a little of the patterned paper on the back and I might create a stand for it later as well. Since it's a shaker, I want to be able to hold it in my hands to enjoy the sounds every once in a while.
