Alice Scraps Wonderland

Times are strange but it was important for me to help my niece have as normal a first birthday as possible. But it was coming down to the wire and I was scrambling to get decor done. Luckily, this little altered art project didn't take very long.

Mixed media lighthouse altered with Finnabair impasto paint, KaiserCraft flowers and Tim Holtz distress grit paste, baubles, tiny lights and die cuts.

Oh tree, you open up your generous hand
Jutting out outstretched like holding a wand
Upon your branches nesting birds building
Assured of comfort weary wings living.

Oh tree, you provided them place to dwell
New flock ready to chirp and sing away
Calling with their melodious notes so well
And dreams of places to fly so far away.

You know when you take such a great photo that you don't have the heart to hide it way in a scrapbook album or display it in some plain, boring frame? That is exactly what happened to me.

This blog post is a little different than my usual. It isn't about a scrapbook layout or mixed media project that I made. Instead it is about how I spent hours researching the name of someone on a piece of Tim Holtz ephemera.

If you've been following this blog for a while now you'll already know that I'm a bit obsessed with Halloween. My favorite part about the holiday is the creativity that is involved!

I had been wanting to create a smooth, blended background for a card recently and my cousin's birthday gave me the perfect excuse. It was his sweet 16 and with COVID-19, we couldn't celebrate his birthday in person with him. So I wanted to make a special handmade card that we could mail with a gift card inside.

I love handmade cards. My family members all get handmade cards from me for holidays and birthdays and I love making them for my friends when I have the time. But sometimes you need to create a beautiful card that looks like you spend hours on it in no time flat.

I love a good top 10 list almost as much as I love scrapbooking. Maybe it's the social media manager aspect of my life that has me so in love with lists like this. Today I thought I'd combine two of my favorite things with a top 10 list of my favorite scrapbooking tools!

There is something so quaint about a shabby potting shed or cottage. More than that, I love gardening. I have irises, lilies, peonies, echinacea, poppies and more in my garden. There is nothing better than looking out your window and seeing a flower in full bloom.

I am a paper hoarder. I love scrapbook paper and cardstock. I'm literally obsessed with it. No really, I am. But bold partners used to be tricky for me...

Beginning with a blank canvas makes starting a mixed media project super easy but I'm always more than happy to hit up my local Goodwill for things I can alter.

I love color. And it's not just because it makes your scrapbook layouts pretty. But because it has the ability to convey emotions and draw out important details in photos.
