Prima Marketing Avec Amour: Eternal Love Altered Heart Tutorial

by - 7:30:00 AM

It's release day at Prima Marketing and today is all about Avec Amour!

Eternal Love mixed media altered heart created with: Prima Marketing Avec Amour papers, paper flowers, ephemera, say it in crystals, rub on transfers, Frank Garcia Memory Hardware pearls nightfall, Finnabair opal magic blue-gold paint, impasto victorian green and boudoir pink paint; Reneabouquets chipboard lace-heart

This gorgeous collection is full of floral motifs and images reminiscent of French court in yummy pastel hues. I always like to think of stories behind collections or projects, as I believe this helps me to create better projects. This collection has me dreaming of couples rendezvousing in carefully manicured gardens to walk and enjoy one another's company or maybe steal a kiss in a secret alcove.

Because this collection is all about love, I wanted to create a mixed media altered heart using many elements from this collection. Here's the Prima products you'll need to recreate this project:
Some other tools and products you will need:
  • Silicone brush
  • Paintbrushes
  • Palette knife
  • Distressing tool or straight blade
  • Scissors
  • Craft knife
  • Adhesive foam
  • Chipboard ( I got my chipboard heart from Reneabouquets)
  • Lace
  • Wooden heart (I picked mine up from Micheals)

I won't go into too much detail here as you'll be able to see all my specific steps in this YouTube tutorial over on the Prima channel, but start by tracing the wooden heart onto your Sweet Roses patterned paper and cut it out. Then tear the heart cut out down the center.

Tear off another strip and turn this paper over--it will layer under the larger piece (be sure to trim off any excess paper). Use a distressing tool or a blade to distress the cut edges of your heart cutout for a shabby chic touch.

Using Soft Gloss Gel, glue your papers down onto your wooden heart, curling up the torn edges for some dimension. Take a floral cluster from the Rub On Transfer set and apply it to the center of the heart, having it peek out from under the layered papers.

I use resin for my moulds and had them poured, set and primed so they were ready to go. I add a wash of watered-down impasto paint to all of the pieces, using Victorian Green on the frame and Boudoir Pink on the gemstone brooches and bow. Using a baby wipe, lint-free towel or paper towel, wipe the highlights or raised areas on your moulds to bring back some of the white. Using Opal Magic paints and a small brush, add some iridescent details to the moulds.

I chose a chipboard heart to add to this project, as well as some lace. I trimmed off the teardrops on the lace and painted the chipboard heart with the Victorian Green Impasto Paint

Then, pick out some ephemera to use in your flower cluster and/or fussy cut some elements from one of the bonus cut out elements sheets in the 12x12 paper pad. I used a little of both. Then layer your ephemera, fussy cut elements, moulds, lace, chipboard and paper flowers together, using Heavy Body Gel to glue them all down. I also used a little bit of foam adhesive to pop some elements up or to help support them.

To finish off the project, add some pearls and gems from the Say it in Crystals set. I hope that you enjoyed this tutorial, and don't forget to watch the YouTube video for this project!
Until next time, happy crafting!
