Mixing and Matching Prima Marketing Paper Collection Moulds

Like dies, moulds are a great investment because you can use them over and over again.

Just because a mould is designed to go with a specific paper collection, doesn’t mean you have to use it only with the papers and flowers from that one collection. I think what I love most about Prima Marketing paper collections is that they are so easy to mix and match—and that includes the moulds as well!

For this mixed media project, I mixed and matches moulds from The Plant Department, With Love, and Watercolor floral. Then I used flowers from the Postcards from Paradise collection.

The vines from The Plant Department mould also seem very tropical, like the Postcards from Paradise collection. So I created a lush tropical garden view by adding the vine moulds to the canvas and topping them with a flower cluster, tucking in leaf ephemera pieces from the Postcards from Paradise collection.

To help set off those flowers and pull in some contrast, I added a frame mould from the With Love collection. I also paired it with a small frame from Finnabair’s Grungy Frames mould set—because all of her moulds also mix and match well with the paper collection moulds too!

And no lush, tropical garden is complete without a butterfly, which I added using a mould from the Watercolor Floral collection. I placed this little butterfly right on top of the flower cluster.

As for my color palette, I stuck to two colors: green and aqua, using white as a highlight. After adhering the vine moulds to the canvas, I painted it with Impasto Paint in Jade. Then I dry brushed White Gesso to highlight the texture of the canvas and moulds. I also did the same with the butterfly mould.

To add a hint of sparkle, I used the Opal Magic Aqua Rose paint. I dry brushed it on to the highlights of the butterfly and vine moulds as well as painted the frame moulds with it. The flowers got dry brushed with a little bit of the gesso and then I added some pearls to them. The finishing touch was a chipboard sticker from the Postcards from Paradise collection.

So moulds from Prima’s paper collections can be reimagined in so many new ways. You can paint them with a number of different paints, glue them directly to your canvas, add them within your floral clusters, or place them on top of your floral clusters.

My one tip for mixing and matching is to find a theme—in this case, my theme was a tropical garden. Vines, butterflies and architectural elements are all part of a lush garden design. This theme will help keep your project cohesive, no matter how many different collections you use to make it! Until next time, happy crafting!
