This project is all treat, no tricks!

Hello, friends! I’m back with another tutorial using some of the new Tim Holtz Sizzix Chapter 3 release dies! But first I want to thank Scrapbook.com for sending me a handful of the new Tim Holtz dies—it has been so fun creating with these products!

Last Halloween my niece went as a cute little witch. It was her very first time going trick-or-treating and she absolutely loved it! She also loves looking up at the moon and refers to the moon as “Luna.” So when I got the Moonlight and Halloween Night dies, I knew I needed to combine them into a cute little mixed media vignette!

I started out by applying some of The Crafter’s Workshop Light and Fluffy Modeling Paste through the Mod Asterisk stencil from Scrapbook.com to a 6 inch circle canvas. After it dried, I then created a Distress background using several sprays: Distress Spray Stain in Villainous Potion, Uncharted Mariner and Lost Shadow; Distress Oxide Spray in Lost Shadow; and Distress Mica Stains in Hocus Pocus and Iron Gate. The Mica Stains are totally optional, but add a fun sparkle if you have them in your stash!

While that dried, I cut out my dies. I used the black cardstock from the Neutrals set to cut out some of the bats from Moonlight and the witch from the Halloween Night set. I also cut out one of the dies from Sizzix’s Skyline Silhouettes die that would be the ground the little witch walked on. I cut the witch’s pumpkin from an orange from the Warms set of Kraftstock and the base of the moon from a yellow.

The top layer of the moon from the Moonlight set was cut from a Distress background that I created on some Mixed Media Heavystock. To create this background, I used Distress Spray Stain in Fossilized Amber as well as Distress Mica Stain in Flickering Candle

I glued the layers of the moon together and the witch together using Distress Collage Medium Matte. I added a little bit of Distress Oxide in Black Soot to the edges of the moon and the pumpkin with a Domed Foam Blending Tool

Once the canvas was dry, I added just a little bit of Prima’s Antique Gold Metallique Wax to the stenciled asterisks to make them look like they were glowing. I also added a little bit to the edge of the ground layer that I cut out.

The moon got a layer of foam adhesive to pop it up from the canvas. I added a little bit of Prima’s Heavy Body Gel to the adhesive foam as this helps it stick to the textured canvas better. The witch got 1 to 2 layers of foam adhesive (depending on where the foam was) and the ground also got 1 layer of foam adhesive.

The last thing was to give the bats’ wings a little bend and then to glue them down with Collage Medium or foam adhesive. This mixed media project is simple, but I really think that allows the dies to really shine and to tell a story. I hope this inspired you to create a little project of a moonlight trick-or-treater using some of the new dies from Tim Holtz!
Until next time, happy crafting!
Adrienne
