Angel: A Remembrance Scrapbook Layout

Sometimes scrapbook pages are about remembering and celebrating those that we have lost.  I always take special care on layouts and albums such as these.  I try to imbue meaning into several different elements of the page.

Occasionally, the client will send memorabilia such as letters or obituaries to include in the page.  Sometimes I decide to make that the star of the page, other times, the photo.  In this case, I had three photos and a scan of a handwritten poem to include.

I loved the photo of the granddaughter with her tattoo commemorating a few lines of a poem that her grandfather wrote for her around the time of her birth.  Since this was to be included in an album for the granddaughter, I wanted to have the focus be on the photo of her and her tattoo.

After doing some mixed media on the watercolor cardstock, including stamping and a wax paste, I created an envelope pocket to hold the poem and two more photos.  I made a little flip book for the for the photos, adding some script paper to the front of the flip book which makes a nice little background for the poem, which was printed onto vellum.

A little tip for printing on vellum: Set your printers ink levels to print out at the lowest volume.  Vellum is not as porous as other papers so there won't be as much for the ink to "sink into."  After it prints, be careful not to smudge the ink when handling the vellum, then give it a quick shot with a heat tool to dry and set the ink--but don't heat it so much that you burn the vellum!

I also included a few strips of various script paper, a laser cut wood butterfly painted gold with acrylic paint, some die cut Moroccan tile pieces, flowers, thread, crinkle ribbon colored to match and gems.  I also added some Tim Holtz metal angel wings to match the granddaughter's tattoo, altering them with a gold wax to match the colors of the page.

The granddaughter's favorite color is teal and Tiffany blue, so you can see that I added a few splashes of teal here and there.  I kept the matting of the photo simple.  It is on the same black cardstock that the die cuts were made from.

I really love how this page turned out, especially the metal angel wings embellishments.  They really pull the whole page together with the main photo.  Even the butterfly reiterates the wings theme.  And of course the script paper and stamp matches the handwritten poem.
