DIY Shabby Christmas Project with Reneabouquets Chipboard, Butterflies and Lace
It's nearly the most wonderful time of year! So I'm sharing a full video tutorial on how to create this festive mixed media panel featuring chipboard, butterflies and lace from Reneabouquets, paired with pretty Prima Marketing flowers!
Hey crafty friend! After Halloween, Christmastime is my second favorite time of year. There's something wonderful and refreshing about a cold snowy night in Colorado, drinking hot chocolate and snuggling up next to a cozy fire and your lit and decorated Christmas tree.
At my house, we decorate our tree with my Oma's (grandmother's) ornaments. She suffered from some blindness and so her tree featured all white ornaments. The contrast on a dark green tree was easier for her to see, but it also reminded her of snowy trees in her home country, Austria.
I wanted to recreate that snowy green, white and cream, but with a few pops of that traditional red and gold colors for this project. I paired Reneabouquets' Gold Ribbons and Bows butterflies and her Winter Earth and Sky Butterflies, with her stunning Holly Dangler printed chipboard pieces.
I also tucked in her Vintage Christmas Ornaments chipboard pieces and added a healthy dose of Diamond Shard Glitter Glass for that snowy sparkle! (There's a full supply list at the bottom of this post!)
But enough gushing over Renea's stunning embellishments--let's put them into action! Be sure to watch the entire process, from adding texture on the canvas with stenciling and Renea's beautiful lace, to my signature floating frame technique, where I float a resin frame mould and Renea's Holly Danglers on top of piles of luscious Prima flowers!
Here are some of the highlights you'll see in this tutorial video:
- Adding texture through a stencil with modeling paste
- How to add a wash of color to the canvas with a Distress Spray Stain
- Adding lace for additional texture on the canvas
- How to create the floating frame technique with the resin mould and the Holly Danglers chipboard
- Applying snowflake paste and glitter glass
- Adding the Reneabouquets butterflies
- Adding some additional finishing touches
I hope that this project inspires you to create something beautiful this holiday season, whether it's for your own holiday home decor, or as a gift for someone special. Until next time, happy crafting!
