Hey, crafty friend! Sizzix just released their latest Eileen Hull collection and it features some lovely elements to create special scenes.  I decided to make an autumn window scene using the Windowsill Flowers and Home Sweet Home Thinlits sets.

You can shop all of the supplies used for this project below!

This special card opens up twice--once to the scene behind the window...

...and another time for your special message. So let's get right into this tutorial!

I'll break this down into bullet points to make it easier to go through.
  • Cut an A2 card base from Sizzix Smooth White Cardstock and from the light blue in the Summer Surfacez pack (cut to 8 1/2 by 4 1/4 inches and score at 5 1/2 inches). I recommend the Sizzix Scoring Board and Trimmer Tool because you can cut and score all on one tool.
  • Using the second largest arch from the Tunnel Arches Thinlits, cut an arch out of the front of the white card base.
  • Fold along the score lines of the white and blue card bases and fold the card in half.
  • Flip the blue card base so it opens on the left side, rather than the right. Glue the blue card base to the white, by gluing the blue to the back of the white card base. You might need to trim off 1/8 inch or less of the blue to allow your card to close nicely with both layers.

  • From the Windowsill Flowers Thinlits, cut the window shape 3 times from a tan cardstock and once from a dark brown cardstock. Cut the lacy edge 3 times from the same brown cardstock.
  • Using Express glue, glue the tan window layers together and the lacy edge pieces together.
  • Trace the window Thinlit die onto a piece of acetate using a Stabilo pencil and cut the traced shape out with scissors just inside the tracing lines. Or you can use the largest Tunnel Arch shape and your Sizzix die cut machine to make this shape--it depends on the thickness of your acetate and how chewed up your cutting pads are.

  • Cut the flowers and vase from the terracotta hue, yellow, peach and purples from the Muted and Eclectic Surfacez pack. Cut the flower base shapes and the vase twice.
  • Using a small blending brush, use the Catherine Pooler Gingerbread ink to creating shading on the vase. Use the Apricot, Verbena and Goldenrod inks on the flowers. The glue the layers together.
  • Cut the flower stems from the darker green in the Eclectic Surfacez pack. Use the Spruce ink to shade the leaves.
  • Glue the flowers to the stems then add the second flower base shape to the back of each flower--this will hide the stem on the backside.
  • Trim some thin strips of green, purple and yellow cardstock into some "books." Vary the width and length of each for a more natural look. Trim some of the tan paper into even thinner strips for each book to create the pages for the back.
  • Add some metallic gold lines to your vase and books with the Uchida gold chisel tip marker. The glue the "pages" to the back side of your books.

  • Use a bit of dotted adhesive and "arrange" your flowers inside the vase. Then glue the second vase shape to the back of the first to hide the stems.
  • Die cut some of the leaves and the little house from the Home Sweet Home Thinlits set.
  • Die cut the trees, clouds, sun, butterflies, fox and the grass from yellow, orange, green, brown, black, tan and white cardstocks.
  • Glue the layers of the trees and fox together. I highly recommend using the rubber tip on the Sizzix Intricate Multi-Tool for the fox. The rubber tip helps you pick up tiny die cuts and set them into your drops of liquid glue.

  • Trace out with a pencil a few strokes onto the blue cardstock of where your window opening falls.  This will help you place your shapes better.
  • Open the card and glue the acetate to the inside of the white cardstock. Glue the brown window die cut on top of that.
  • Close your card and glue the tan window layered die cut to the front of your card.

  • Apply dotted adhesive to the backs of your grass layers and glue them to the blue layer. Dotted adhesive has a little work time, so you can move these layers around if you need to. Trim off any ends that are hanging off.

  • Glue the trees in place, placing the trunks under one of the layers of grass.
  • Glue the fox in place, making sure you can see his face clearly through the window when the card is closed.
  • Add in a few leaves to your autumn scene as well as one of the butterflies. Glue the sun near the top and add some clouds to your scene.

  • On the front of your card, add the vase--make sure you only add glue where it lays over other cardstock, and not on the acetate!
  • Add the stack of books, again only glueing over cardstock. Pop the little house onto the books.
  • Trim a bit of 1/8 inch foam strips in half lengthwise to make it really thin and add this to the base of the lacy edge cut. Then pop it onto your card front.

  • Die cut a sentiment and add it to the inside white page of your card. I used the "Happy Birthday" from the Common Greetings Thinlits designed by Letters by Shells.
  • Finally, add a few gems to the outside of your card!
