Finnabair just dropped new moulds, stencils and decoupage paper! Here's how you can combine all three products for a dreamy mixed media canvas!

Hey, crafty friend! Finnabair and Prima Marketing just dropped some amazing new moulds, along with some stencil sets and decoupage paper! I'm a mould addict, so I had to use several of the new moulds in one project simply because I can! But this project is also about how to combine all 3 of the new product types together, so let's broaden our view a bit...

I'm also excited that Finn dropped some new stencil sets and decoupage papers--which are a nice big size and have multiple motifs on the one sheet. This allows you to really fill up a larger canvas if you want. I used the larger section of the Southampton Butterflies Decoupage Paper for this particular mixed media canvas.

Now if your Decoupage Papers arrive a little wrinkled or you want to take out the creases from the folds, simply steam your decoupage paper and lay it flat to dry. I just used a brayer to help me push the crease flat when applying it to my canvas--so let's get into that.

You can either cut off a section of your decoupage paper to fit or just fall off the edge of your project. I left the sheet in tact. I applied a thin layer of Finn's Soft Matte Gel to an oval canvas board then laid the part of the Decoupage Paper over the canvas. I used my brayer to push the paper into the gel and to flatten out the crease.

Once it was firmly in place, I used a nail file, moving it along the edge of the canvas board, to cut the excess Decoupage Paper off. This is a no-waste way to use your decoupage paper--because you can always collage your scraps! To lock it in, I applied another coat of the soft matte gel and let this dry. Then once dry, I added a layer of Finn's Clear Gesso to protect the paper from the additional layers I'd be adding next.

Because the section of Decoupage Paper I used was not as tall or wide as my canvas, I used texture paste to hide the straight edges of the paper. But before working on those edges, I first applied the Paper Texture Paste through one of the Old Pages Stencils. Using the same palette knife, I then added it to the edges of the canvas board.

I set this aside to dry and worked on the moulds next. I used white resin to cast my moulds and then prepped them the Clear Gesso. The moulds I used were the Machine Dragonflies, Tapes & Labels and Letterpress Numbers from the new release, plus one of my favorites--Grungy Frames.

I wanted to create a dreamy rust effect on the moulds--not textured, but like you were viewing it through old, warped glass which softens details. So instead of using the Rust Effect Paste set, I chose to use some Liquid Acrylics and Waxes to create the effect. For the paints, I used Umber, Ocher and Crimson. I mixed the Ocher and a bit of the Crimson to create a rusty orange hue, then also used the Umber and Ocher on their own as well.

For the frame, label and numbers, I did a mottled effect--dabbing on the paint colors. Using water helps the colors mix a bit at the edges. The dragonflies got a wash of umber on the wings. For the large dragonfly the body got the rusty orange color and the smaller ones got Ocher on the body.

Once the paint was dry on the canvas, I added the Ocher and umber colors to the texture paste on the canvas. I used water to help move the paint around. If you put a little too much liquid or paint on your canvas, lay a paper towel over your canvas and gently tap the paper towel with your fingers to lift some of the color. Then pull up the paper towel. I set this aside to dry again and returned back to the moulds.

To add some metallic shimmer to the moulds, I applied Metallique Wax using the stenciling brushes. I applied Honey over the yellow paint areas, Celestial over the brown areas, and Coral over the orange areas. The final part of prep before assembling overhang on the canvas was adding a Bewitched Chipboard Sticker to the label mould using Finn's Heavy Body Gel.

I layered on the moulds and flowers from Nature Academia, gluing everything on using a combination of Heavy Body Gel and hot glue. The gel provides long lasting hold and the hot glue provides instant adhesion to help hold elements in place until the gel cures fully. Finishing touches included adding Art Stones with Soft Matte Gel and a few sparkly gems from Nature Academia.

I hope you enjoyed seeing how you can combine all of the products in Finn's most recent release to create a dreamy mixed media canvas, and until next time, happy crafting!
