Let's cover MDF with more than just paint! In this tutorial, learn what adhesive and tips will help you easily cover MDF shapes with embossed cardstock.

Hi, crafty friend! I love to alter MDF shapes. The hard material is sturdy and there are so many different themes and shapes the possibilities are endless!

But most tutorials with MDF focus on paint and other mediums to create the background. In this tutorial, I share how to apply embossed cardstock to your MDF shapes and which adhesive I think is the best for this! And this is actually really easy to do, so don't be intimidated by this mixed media project.

In my tutorial video, you'll also learn how to add extra dimension to your layered MDF shapes, plus get my process for adding embellishments like flowers and glitter glass.

If you don't like messy pastes and working with stencils, or you just don't have a lot of pastes to use, embossed cardstock is a great alternative for adding texture to your mixed media projects. And I specifically love embossing folders that can be used year-round, like the one I used for this project, the Lacy Leaves 3D Texture Fade from Sizzix.

I can see this embossed on teal for a jewel tone project, or yellow for a fun summer project! It's all in the color palette you use. I'm in an autumn mood, so I decided to create a classic orange pumpkin with a deep orange from the Sizzix Spiced Revealz cardstock pack. Their Revealz line has a coordinating color core, and a little light sanding on the raised design brings out that color--super easy and super fun!

Then I paired this orange cardstock with black paint from Sizzix and purple flowers from Prima. The mould is from the new Finnabair release and is perfect for adding a little greenery to your projects. I cast my moulds with resin and I've linked my favorite brand in the supply list below. And the base of the project comes from The Mixed Palette, which specializes in MDF shapes for mixed media projects.

I hope that you feel inspired to use your embossing folders for more than just cards and that you give this easy mixed media project a try. Until next time, happy crafting!
