This interactive waterfall flip is perfect for mini albums and junk journals. Here's how to make it.

Hey, crafty friend! Previously I shared my mini album that I created using the new Bewtiched collection and you may have gotten a little peek of this waterfall flip. If you've been wondering how to make it, the wait is over! I won't waste any more of your time, so let's get right into the tutorial.

For this project, you'll need these supplies that you likely already have in your craft stash:
  • A good heavy-weight cardstock: I used Spellbinder's cardstock, which is nice and thick, but still flexible enough for this project.
  • A paper trimmer and scoring board: I recommend the Sizzix Scoring Board and Trimmer tool as you get both in one handy tool, plus you can easily switch the rulers and scoring board from metric to imperial to help you follow this tutorial even easier!
  • Optional small heart-shaped die or punch: I used one of the Nested Hearts die from Scrapbook.com, but any die or punch will work. If you don't have a die or die cut machine, you can always cut one by hand!
  • Photos and/or patterned paper, stickers and ephemera: to fill your flip with!

Now let's talk measurements and steps:
  • Trim 4 cardstock rectangles each to 1 1/4 inches by 3 1/4 inches.
  • Trim a cardstock strip to 1 1/2 inches by 6 1/4 inches.
  • On one end of the strip, score every 3/4 inches to make 4 small scored sections.
  • Optional: round the corners on the other end of the strip.
  • Trim some patterned paper to 1 1/4 inches by 4 1/4 inches.
  • Optional: round the corners on one end of the strip to match the cardstock one.
  • Using a craft knife, cut a slit in one of the 4 rectangles 1 1/4 inches from the bottom, making the slit 1 3/4 inches wide and 1/8 inch tall.
  • Fold at the creases on the cardstock strip and have the end with the smaller sections closer to you and the long section pointing away from your body.
  • Glue the cardstock rectangles to the smaller sections, starting with the one with the slit on the first section, then the other three on the next several sections.
  • Flip the mechanism over and attach the patterned paper strip.
  • Optional: cut or punch out 2 small hearts and glue one to each side of the bottom of the strip.
  • Trim a 2 inch square of patterned paper and add it to the front of the rectangle with the slit.
  • Then fold the long strip over and push it through the slit in the rectangle.
  • Fill your other rectangles with 2 x 3 inch photos, patterned paper, ephemera and/or stickers!
  • Place your flip into a pocket in your mini album or junk journal--I placed mine into a pocket made from 4x6 journaling notecards.

Once you have one under your belt and you understand how simple this mechanism is, you can experiment with different sizes of flips or try out one with landscape rectangles instead of portrait ones. Until next time, happy crafting!
