Ruffles and Pearls: A Handmade Wedding Card

by - 12:05:00 PM

Wedding season is quickly approaching and there is nothing like giving a personalized wedding card to the bride and groom.  I think handmade cards really stand out from the crowd of store-bought cards and really shows how much you care.

A few years back I made a card for my cousin and her husband featuring ruffled paper layers.  For this card, I wanted a more vintage and shabby look to the ruffles, making them uneven and also letting them tear a little here and there.  This process took quite a bit of time and made heavy use of a water mister to make the paper more pliable and a heat tool to help dry the ruffles in place.

Once the ruffled paper strips were dry and glued on, I attached some crinkle ribbon to cover the raw edge of the layered ruffles, a tag labeled "Mr. & Mrs." plus a small flower.  I also added a few pearls as well.

Back when I made this card, there were no multi-media sewing machines that could sew through paper without damaging the machine.  Now that I have purchased the We R Memory Keepers Stitch Happy multi-media sewing machine I'm excited to make strips of ruffled and pleated papers more quickly for layouts.  I've already tried some pleated paper strips out with the sewing machine and love the way they turned out.  (Stay tuned for tutorial on pleated and ruffled paper!)
