Hey, crafty friend! I'm shaking up some spooky fun with these adorable tombstone shaker tags. I've used the limited edition Prima Marketing Midnight Magic Box Kit, which you should totally get before it's gone, but as my treat to you, I've got a free tombstone template you can download!

You can shop the full supply list for this project, including the limited edition kit, below!

These tombstone shakers are simply layers of patterned cardstock, acetate and foam adhesive with some charms, flowers and ephemera. So let's get right into this tutorial!

  • Download the free template--I've got an svg file for my electronic die cutting besties, and a print pdf version for my crafty besties who don't have a Cricut or Silhouette Cameo machine.
  • Cut out the base and frame tombstone shapes from your choice of patterned paper in the Midnight Magic Box Kit.
  • Cut the frame tombstone shape again from some black cardstock.

  • Use one of the cuts or your template to also trace onto one of the acetate sheets in the Kit using a Stabilo pencil. Cut the acetate just inside the traced lines you drew.
  • Optional: Poke holes in the tombstone frame layer with an awl. Use a contrasting 3 strand embroidery thread and stitch the holes using a running straight stitch.

  • Using your favorite liquid adhesive, glue the frame layer onto the acetate.
  • Using that same adhesive, glue the black cardstock frame layer to the back of the acetate for a clean edge and for more stability.
  • Add 3mm black foam along the black cardstock frame--don't leave any holes or your shaker bits will fall out!
Tip: If you remove the backing off your foam it will bend more easily around curves without you having to cut it into a million little pieces.

  • Use an antistatic brush or pad used for stamping on the edge of your foam--this will eliminate any stickiness on the "clean" edge of the foam that your shaker bits may otherwise stick to. (I love to use the Pink & Main Antistatic Brush.)
  • Clean any excess antistatic dust off the acetate with a microfiber cloth.
  • With your frame and acetate still flipped upside down, add the Luna Confetti bits to your shaker.
  • Add any other shaker bits you want, like sequins or flat back pearls (remember to place your flat back pearls with the back facing up toward you).

  • Once you've added all the shaker bits you want, peel the rest of the backing off your foam adhesive and add liquid adhesive on top of the foam adhesive--this will give you some "wiggle time" so you don't have to place your backer piece perfectly the first time.
  • With your shaker still facing down, place your backer piece on with the backside facing you and the front side toward the acetate.
  • Flip your shaker over right side up and pile on some embellishments, including flowers, ephemera, fussy cut elements and gems.
  • Add some charms from the Midnight Magic Kit onto a large lobster claw clasp using jump rings.
  • Tie a bit of chiffon ribbon through the hole in the top to finish it off.

And that's it! All you have to do is attach this tag to a gift or give in place of a card--I always like to add some white cardstock onto the back that I can write a little note on. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial, and don't forget to download your free cut file/template so you can make your own shaker tags!
