Hey, crafty friend! Prima Marketing just released their 2025 Halloween Box Kit, Midnight Magic and it's a Halloween lover's dream. I always love to throw a good party or make treats super cute for my little niece, so I couldn't pass up the opportunity to use this kit to make the most adorable layered cupcake toppers.

For this project, you'll need these supplies:
  • Prima Marketing Midnight Magic Box Kit
  • Bamboo Skewers
  • Small Scissors and/or Craft Knife
  • Pom Pom, Tassel Trim and/or Chiffon Ribbon
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Foam Adhesive
  • Paper Trimmer
  • Metal Dies and Die Cut Machine or Electronic Die Cut Machine
  • Awl, Embroidery Floss and Needles
  • Other Basic Crafting Supplies

So let's get right into this tutorial!
  • Die cut your base shape twice. I used a mirror black cardstock.
  • Die cut a nesting shape from some of the patterned paper in your Midnight Magic Kit twice.
  • Die cut any other shapes you want--I die cut some spider webs and a stitched flower die.

  • Die cut a small triangle from some basic cardstock--this will be a template.
  • Trace your triangle template onto some of the acetate from the Midnight Magic Kit using a Stabilo pencil then cut the traced shape out with scissors.
  • Choose ephemera or fussy cut some elements from your patterned paper in the Midnight Magic Kit.

  • Using an awl and foam craft mat, pierce holes along the patterned mats and the ephemera pieces.
  • Stitch along the pierced holes using a running straight stitch. I used 3 strands of coordinating cotton embroidery floss. If you die cut stitching dies, stitch those as well.
  • Use some foam adhesive to attach your paper mattes to the base die cuts, back and front.
  • Add your embellishments to your front piece, layering in your acetate triangle, die cuts, pom pom trim and flowers. Layering with foam adhesive will give you more dimension!

  • Add a few gems for some bling.
  • Use craft tape or washi tape to secure a bamboo skewer to the backside of the back piece then add hot glue to fully glue the pieces together.
  • Place foam adhesive around the bamboo skewer, peel the backing off, add liquid adhesive to the foam adhesive for some wiggle time, and add the decorated front piece on top.
  • Trim off excess length of the bamboo skewer and add to your cupcake!

On the tag version of my cupcake topper, I even added chiffon ribbon and some of the charms from the Midnight Magic Kit! The possibilities are endless and I could have spend an entire weekend making a horde of these toppers they are so cute--but I've got more project ideas for this kit so I only made three. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and idea; until next time, happy crafting!
