Victorian Christmas Eve Inspired Mixed Media Tutorial
This mixed media panel tutorial is full of classic Christmas details and colors, featuring the new From the North Pole collection from Prima Marketing.
Hey, crafty friends, Prima Marketing just released a new The 3 Girls Tale collection, From the North Pole! It features classic Christmas colors and icons, as well as an entire package of red floral ephemera, which I absolutely adore. (You can find a full list of products used at the bottom of this post.)
My favorite paper in the entire collection is the Christmas carol sheet music collage. I knew that I had to use it in my first project for this collection and so it became the background of my 12x12 round wooden base.
I also incorporated some of the most recent holiday themed Redesign with Prima Moulds, specifically Wonder Gems (ornaments) and Holly Jolly Holidays (holly) moulds.
I’ve got a full step-by-step tutorial up on my YouTube channel and on the Prima Marketing channel. In it, you’ll see how I paint the moulds, layering on flowers and ephemera, plus adding finishing touches such as Finnabair’s Snowflake Paste and Glitter.
But I’ll walk you through some of the steps here. After adding the paper to the background, I worked on prepping several of the items, like the moulds.
I painted the leaves of the holly moulds with a green watercolor paint from Art Philosophy. While that dried, I painted the ornament moulds with Finnabair’s Linen Impasto Paint.
I went back to the holly, but this time added red to the berries with another watercolor from Art Philosophy. While that dried, I added gold wax to the ornament moulds.
I also added Modeling Paste through a stencil to the music paper background. The final prepping was dry brushing white gesso over the moulds.
For the layering process, you’ll definitely want to watch the video. I show you how I use cardboard to pop the ornaments up at different heights to layer them over each other.
Plus you’ll see how I add flowers, fussy cut elements and ephemera. But I also show you how I decorate one of the postcards from the Postcard Kit with the Sticker Roll and Rub On Transfers!
Once my layers were down, I applied Finnabair’s Snowflake Paste with an old paintbrush. I then added a little Soft Matte Gel to a couple of the red flowers then tapped on a red glitter from the Crimson glitter set.
I added on some Memory Hardware Pearls, 2 sentiment Chipboard Stickers, and some of the Crystals from the collection!
I hope that you love this piece as much as I do, and that it inspires you to create something beautiful for the upcoming holiday season. Until next time, happy crafting!
Adrienne
