Hi, crafty friend! I love when a paper collection has a lot of ephemera. It’s perfect for making quick cards but it’s also perfect for creating easy scrapbook layouts—no die cutting necessary.

Sweet Spring designed by Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing has 3 different ephemera packs to choose from--all with really sweet spring and Easter motifs, from bunnies, to egg filled nests, to butterflies. Plus, there are little library cards, cabinet cards, and other script and text-based ephemeral pieces.

I've got all of the supplies I used for this project listed below, so let's get right into this tutorial.

Select 2 sheets of 12x12 paper. One will be your base, and the other will be your layering strip. I wanted my layering piece to be around a certain width so I like to trim the layering piece down to that width plus 1 to 2 extra inches. This gives you room to tear both ends of your layering piece.

Cut a strip of lace to 12 inches long. Attach it with some washi tape to the back side of the bottom of the layering piece if you want to sew it on. This tape will keep it in place temporarily. If you want to skip sewing, use some hot glue to attach this lace instead. I sewed on both sides of the layering piece. I did one straight line, then two wavy lines to create some organic movement.

Then glue this layering piece onto the base paper with some roller adhesive and then push the torn edges up a bit for even more distressing and dimension. Matte your photo(s) with some plain white cardstock.

Choose the ephemera and chipboard stickers you want to use and layer it on to the page with your photos using roller adhesive, foam adhesive and liquid adhesive. I used liquid adhesive on the bodies of the butterfly and bee ephemera so I could bend their wings up a bit. Foam adhesive will help you add dimension. I'm a fan of the Scrapbook.com variety packs that give you 1mm, 2mm and 3mm thick foam to help you layer your elements.

I cast the smaller frame from the mould in this collection using Redesign with Prima's Casting Mix. This gives a bright white, highly detailed finish. And unlike resin, it's porous, so there is no need to prime it with gesso! I kept this simple and left it unpainted, then used a gold metallic marker on the raised parts to highlight the texture of the mould.

I used the 6x6 pad to add a backing of patterned paper to the frame. I added this to the layout, then layered on some flower ephemera on top of it.

I added several of the smaller and flatter flowers for this layout. If you are framing it in a shadowbox, feel free to use the rose like flowers in this collection with more dimension. This is going in a scrapbook, so I stuck with the less dimensional flowers. I used hot glue and liquid glue to attach these.

The finishing touches included adding some Memory Hardware Pearls to the center of the largest flower with the lace netting, then adding some flat back pearls to the layout for a bit of bling.

I hope that this inspires you to dig into this ephemera filled collection to try your hand at an easy scrapbook layout or card. Until next time, happy crafting!
