DIY Luna Moth Mixed Media Tutorial
I'm interrupting your steady stream of Christmas inspired content for this electric DIY luna moth perfect for insect and Halloween lovers!
Hello, crafty friends! I know I've been sharing a ton of Christmas content lately, but it's still Spooky Season and Halloween is my favorite holiday, so I'm bringing you this luna moth inspired mixed media piece!
I bought this luna moth wood shape from Etsy--the 8 inch length (I'll have all of the supplies I used listed at the bottom of this blog). I painted the entire piece with Finn's Impasto in Green Apple. I also painted some Redesign and Finn moulds with the same impasto.
Once the impasto was dry, I added the Unicorn Effect Paste through the Manor House Stencil onto the moth base. The Moulds got a layer of Metallique Acrylic in Lime Peel, and once that was dry, a little bit of Metallique Wax in Celestial on the highlights.
I glued the Fleurish moulds to the base of the moth with Heavy Body Gel. The smaller moulds are the perfect size for the moth antenna! This is an old mould, but there are plenty of Redesign moulds to chose from that could be good options. The Majestic Flourish might work well.
For the floral cluster, I added in a bunch of chartreuse flowers and leaf ephemera from the Postcards from Paradise collection. I nestled the Finn frame mould in the center then popped on some more flowers.
The top flower is one of the light green ones from the Avec Amour collection. Then I tucked in some little heart moulds and some crystals. And that's it! It's one of my signature monochromatic projects full of texture and flowers. Until next time, happy crafting!
