Alice Scraps Wonderland

Weddings are mostly for the bride, right?  Deciding on a decor theme, colors, cake flavor, location--the brides are mostly making the decisions.  The brides are the ones who mostly care about photos of the wedding day, the favors you give your guests, the dance music...
Silly Boys: A Wedding Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland | A fun and fresh take matches the mood of the photos and keeps the layout from being too feminine while featuring the men of the bridal party.

I just love getting co-op work from my photographer cousin, Kelly.  Her and her husband's photos are amazing and I get to see beautiful blushing brides, sweet infants and darling 1-year-olds covered in cake and frosting.  The best photos to work with are those with obvious themes.  Recently, I created a custom disc case for an adorable baby girl in a cute little crocheted mermaid set.

I just love a beautiful sunset.  Here in Bronco Country, we cherish them.  It's why the Denver Bronco's colors are orange and blue.  But I will take a gorgeous sunset anywhere and as a traveler, I've seen sunsets all over the world, including Washington D.C.; Vienna, Austria; Prague, Czech Republic; Aukland, New Zealand and Sydney, Australia!

Adventure is Calling: A Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland | A gorgeous northern California coastline sunset gets the vintage treatment in this scrapbook layout. Pretty Prima flowers, a Basic Grey garland and BoBunny layered chipboard stickers add dimension and texture.

I've now thrown two tea party bridal showers with the help of some wonderful family members.  But the one thing I know I can do all on my own is creating a handmade card for the bride-to-be.

Tea for Two: A Handmade Bridal Shower Card by Alice Scraps Wonderland | Vintage teacups and a teabag made of vellum and Flower Soft add sweet touches to this handmade card for the bride-to-be.

I know it has been a long time since I have posted anything on my blog.  I feel like everything always happens all at once.  I accepted a freelance video editing job, I was building a website for my flute choir (yes, flute choir is still a thing), our bathroom is in the midst of a remodel and there were delays because things ended up having to be special ordered, my grandmother's roof has a leak but now it really turns out the exhaust hose to the furnace came unattached and is spewing carbon monoxide into her attic (this was taken care of ASAP!), Honda has had it's third recall on the driver's side airbag of my grandmother's car (for crying out loud, Honda, is too much to ask that you get it right the first time around?!), my windshield needed replacing, my mom's transmission still needs work, now my grandmother's windshield needs replacing, I've had to get a flat tire patched on my car and then ended up replacing it after it ended up with a nail in the sidewall, my dad is constantly bothering me about coming over to get his mail at my house even though he knows I'm hardly ever home ("Why hasn't he gotten all of it transferred over to his house yet?," you ask.  I can't answer that one for you because I. literally. don't. know. the. answer. to that one.), rehearsals for band and flute choir started in earnest, birthdays and birthdays galore (sister, mom, me, friends, cousin, sister, more friends…), gardening at 2 houses, landscaping (I've been on my own for this one), I've been making  accessories for my Halloween costume because my flute choir is getting dressed up in costume for our Halloween concert, now I have to make stand decorations and flute/piccolo costumes!

Thank You A Latte: A Handmade Thank You Card by Alice Scraps Wonderland | Fall colors and a few glitter accents make this coffee cup card perfect for autumn.

Tea parties must be popular right now, or at least they're popular among my family!  Last month I helped my "bonus mom" (sounds so much nicer than step-mother, doesn't it?), Jane, throw a bridal shower for her daughter, Carmella.

This week's Shadowhunters Fan Art Friday (#SHFanArtFriday) subject is the spooky but helpful shadowhunter "librarians," the Silent Brothers of the Silent City (#FanArtFridaySilentBrothers).

Shadowhunters Rune Tag: The Silent Brothers by Alice Scraps Wonderland | The Silent Brothers are creepy but also ethereal. Their focus is academia and protecting the dead. Washed out hues, stitching, bones and the soundless rune all represent this.

Shadowhunters Rune Tags by Alice Scraps Wonderland | Each tag features a rune worn by Cassandra Clare's shadowhunter characters from her novels as well as lots of shimmery elements that would make High Warlock of Brooklyn and glitter love, Magnus Bane, proud! Catch ABC Family's premier of Shadowhunters, adapted from Clare's The Mortal Instruments series, in early 2016!

Who doesn't love a good book?  My favorite past time is curling up in a cozy spot and getting lost in a new world, one far away from my own life.  It's like an escape.

If you've noticed, I've been a little silent on my blog lately.  That's because I haven't been able to get much scrapbooking done and it's not because I've been super busy.  It's because the power cord to my Silhouette Cameo shorted out.

Yes.  Flute Choir is a thing.

card, card making, handmade, custom, scrapbooking, mixed media, music, flute, flute choir, Pikes Peak Flute Choir, chipboard, feather, flowers, pearls, lace, treble clef, music note, eighth note, vintage, shabby chic, quartz, bling, gems, jewels, distress, distress Ink, Tim Holtz, Prima Marketing, flowers, glitter, butterflies, Marion Smith Designs, Color Lab, chalk ink, gesso, alcohol ink, distress crackle, teal, turquoise, aqua, Alice Scraps Wonderland

If you have never been to a flute choir concert, you should attend one because they are amazing!  I'm not just saying this because I myself am a "flutie" or because I am a member of the Pikes Peak Flute Choir, but because they truly are amazing.

If you read my blog regularly, you know about the difficult relationship my Oma (grandmother) and I have. I won't rehash it here, but if you missed my previous blog posting detailing some of the issues my Oma and I have had, read my post entitled "The Vintage Wedding Scrapbook Layout that Almost Wasn't."

For those of you that have been following me on social media (especially Instagram) for a while know that I love to garden.  I didn't realize how enjoyable it was until we landscaped my mother's front yard.  When I first planted all those day lilies and the lilac bush I though, "Gee, I hope I don't kill all these plants we just spent a ton of money on!"

I've recently expanded my mixed media techniques from the 12x12 scrapbook page to handmade cards.  So I made a special card for my mom for Mother's Day.  I figure a woman who moves into her elderly mother's house to take care of her mom, gives up her life and worldly possessions while still working a day job, deserves a very special Mother's Day card!

April is a very busy month for birthdays in my family.  I was literally making cards all month long!  Now that that May is finally here, I can share them all with you!

First I'll start with my dad's birthday card.  My dad works for the local Coca-Cola warehouse so I used my Silhouette to create this cute Coke can card!

A while back I created a layout using one of my sister's engagement photos that I took.  I submitted the layout to Archiver's "Make, Share, Win" contest.  And though I didn't win, I did get featured as an inspirational project!  Now that the contest is long past, I'm sharing the layout on my own blog!

I crafted to my little heart's content last week, turning out two cards and a layout, not to mention designing a banner, card and tag in Silhouette Studio Designer's Edition (I will post these sometime next month)!

Hello, my friends!  After a whole week of not scrapping or crafting I finally got back into the swing of things this past week.

I love making scrapbook pages but I also enjoy making handmade cards.  I mostly make them for family members (birthdays, mother's day, etc.), but I also make a few on behalf of the music groups I'm in--The Little London Winds and The Pikes Peak Flute Choir (yes, there are many flute choirs in this world!).

Thinking of You Sympathy Card by Alice Scraps Wonderland | A bright rainbow of hues is unconventional for sympathy card but helps brighten the day of the recipient, especially with the matching statement inside the card: "Fond memories will bring you brighter days."

This Dress is Perfect by Alice Scraps Wonderland | This light and airy wedding scrapbook page is adorned with a soft vellum butterfly, a delicate sequin flower and a scrap of lace from the bride's wedding gown.

Hello, friends!  Spring is in the air and my heart feels light and airy.  I guess that would explain the light and airy scrapbook page I just finished up!

Cherish: A Wedding Scrapbook Page by Alice Scraps Wonderland | Chalkboard inspired paper matches the chalkboard in the photo. Groupings of pretty flowers and a cute Instagram camera die cut finish off this pretty little page.

Hello, friends!  I've created another scrapbook page using my Prima Marketing Special Delivery box, The Bright Side.  This is also the opposing page to the Always & Forever layout.

Hello, all!  I hope you enjoyed the Pretty Little Liars inspired tAgs step-by-step photo tutorial! If you haven't seen it yet, make sure to check it out!

Pretty Little Liars pArty decor idea: Find a tool that resembles an ice pick or use a large knife and embed it in a large glass vase of dirt and red flowers.

I only have a few television shows that I obsess about and I must admit, Pretty Little Liars is one of them!

Pretty Little Liars A inspired message tAgs by Alice Scraps Wonderland | These delightful "tAgs" are quick and easy to make. Plus, you only need a handful of supplies: a little bit of Aria inspired creativity, a dash of Hanna's sassiness, a spoonful of Spencer's ingenuity, a bit of muscle from Emily and a pinch of A's dark and twisted intentions.

Hello, all!  I recently received my Prima Marketing March Special Delivery, The Bright Side, in the mail and couldn't wait to use it!  (Prima, you have got to stop doing this to me!  Two kits in a row that match my sister's wedding colors…I just can't resist!)

Always & Forever by Alice Scraps Wonderland | Tulle and chalkboard elements give this layout a vintage feel. The flowers add bright pops of color.

Hello, my friends!  Spring is in the air...unfortunately it's a little too seasonably warm for Colorado.  April is usually our snowiest month and I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop and kill my flowers that are starting to wake up and grow a tad bit too early.  So in hopes that all that hard work I did 2 summers ago landscaping my mother's front yard and 2 summers worth of nurturing those flowers doesn't go to waste, I created a layout featuring my sister's wedding bouquet!

Hello, all!  I've got another pretty layout for you, this time in shades of blue.

Hello, my friends!  I hope this week has been kind to you.  I had my very first jury duty experience this week.  I've received notices before but this was the first time I actually had to appear at the courthouse (last time it was finals week in college).

Love this Family: A Scrapbook Layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland | A few flowers and other small embellishments keep this layout simple yet sweet.

Hello and happy weekend, everyone!  Late Friday night I finished up one of my most favorite layouts to date.

With this Ring: A scrapbook layout by Alice Scraps Wonderland | The layout was created with gesso, Bazzill cardstock and tons of Prima Marketing flowers and embellishments. A few strands of pearls and gems were added for a bit of sparkle and shine.

I've been working my way through my sister's California Trip album and wedding album with the help of online scrapbooking challenges.  This week I'm sharing with you a layout I created using the Color Stories Inspiration (CSI) challenge  Case File No. 156 and a photo of some super feisty seals at Pier 39.

Every bride is supposed to get a "something new" to wear down the aisle.  I knew exactly what my sister, Caitlin, would need for her something new the night she said yes to the dress.

It's apparently wedding central for my family--my sister got married this past summer and now my cousin and bonus sister (much nicer term than step-sister!) are getting married this summer.

This month's mood board challenge over at Scrap Around the World was a dreamy pallet of greens, browns, blues and yellow-golds.  All the nature-themed inspiration made me want to pull out another photo from my sister and her husband's trip to California.  I just knew that one of the photos of the Redwood National Park would be perfect for this layout challenge.

It's hard for me to admit, but I had mixed feelings about scrapping this photo of my Oma and Opa (grandmother and grandfather) for Prima's February 2015 PPP.  The mixed feelings come from my relationship with my Oma.

Mother of the Bride detail photos by Alice Scraps Wonderland.
I've recently been on the hunt for scrapbooking challenges to join and came across C.S.I.--Color, Stories, Inspiration.  I loved the color palette for the current challenge, no. 153 so I figured why not join this challenge!

As many of my readers already know, my sister's wedding was this past August at Hillside Gardens--a local garden and nursery.  There is a spectacular view of Pikes Peak just behind the arch at the wedding ceremony site on the grounds.  It's the perfect spot to get married among nature with the iconic mountain in Colorado.  However nature had other plans for us that day.

I've been a fan of Scrap Around the World on Facebook for a while. I'm constantly visiting their blog and endlessly pinning all the amazing layouts submitted by fellow crafters from all over the world. And the mood boards are so inspirational. I've always wanted to enter the monthly challenge but never really found the time before.

"II Cute" by Alice Scraps Wonderland: A boarder of pink flowers and vintage details adorn this oh so adorable photo of my cousin and flower girl, Rylee. The vintage look of the mood board perfectly matched my sister's wedding theme--clock and all!

Welcome to Part II of my three-part Frozen Birthday Party extravaganza!

Today I'll be going over the decor, tablescape, and goodie bags! Let's just jump right into it--here are some ideas to whet your crafting whistle:

I adore mixed media layouts.  I love making my craft table a mess while getting to play with all the different textures.  For Christmas I got some of the Prima Art Extravagance Texture Pastes.  I particularly asked for the White Sand because I knew I could use it for my sister and her husband's vacation album.  They took a ton of photos of the northern California coast line.  Hello, beach layouts!  After Christmas I was itching to use my new mixed media pastes and I finally got a chance earlier this week.

We all know that the obsession with Disney's Frozen isn't over yet.  For the next year or so every little girl will want a Frozen-themed birthday party--my cousin included.  So my mother and I set out to make it the best birthday party she's had yet!

Frozen Birthday Party: Setting up the table--a snowflake table cloth, pretty organza and battery operated lights with iridescent tinsel make a pretty backdrop.
