Encouraging Little Crafters and Inspiring Creativity!
These Sizzix products are perfect for little hands and make family time fun and crafty!
Hello, crafty friend! I'm sure many of you have a little one or perhaps a niece or nephew. Crafting can make for fun family time so I love that Sizzix came out with 4 stamp and metal die sets specifically for young crafters that work perfectly with the Sidekick!
My niece, sister and I had a fun afternoon making a set of dreamcatcher inspired crafts that we decorated with 2 of these Sizzix Stamp & Framelit sets. I'm pretty sure that my niece's favorite room in my house is my craft room--and that maybe she likes me only for my craft supplies! Just kidding, my sister say's I'm "her person."
I'll get to the quick and easy dreamcatcher tutorial in a second, but first, I want to highlight these 4 sets that are part of the Kids Create collection. (If you just want to skip straight to shopping the collection, check out the bottom of my post where everything is listed for you to peruse!)
My niece loves Unicorns, so of course she chose this whimsical Unicorn and Rainbows set.
I love the mountains so I fell in love with the adorable Forest Friends set.
Not into either of those? There is this absolutely fun Dinosaur Adventures set that I have to admit, I really want to use myself!
And this Cars and Trucks set for those who enjoy building a little city scene. (Can you just imagine this with a building in the background? So cute!)
And each of these sets are designed to work with the Sizzix Sidekick. So you don't need a big, expensive die cut machine to cut the stamped images out. The Sidekick is also perfectly sized for kids to use easily--even my niece can crank the handle!
And if you want to make stamping even easier, the Sizzix Stencil and Stamp Platform is a must. It made it so easy for my niece to stamp with, rather than large stamp blocks that can be hard for little hands to hold. Plus, you can stamp multiple times without having to worry about lining it all back up, so your little one will waste less cardstock!
Okay, now that we've chatted about this adorable collection of Stamp & Framelit sets, let's get into this little dreamcatcher like craft tutorial. If you have a very young crafter, some of these you will need to do for your little. If you have an older kid, adult supervision is best. We'll be using scissors and hot glue so choose what is best for you and your family!
- Open up an embroidery hoop and place a doily on the inner hoop. Set the outer hoop in place and tighten the knob. You might have to do this part for your littles.
- Trim off any excess doily on the back with a pair of scissor.
- Cut some lengths of yarn, fold the length in half and push it through the bottom of the doily. Pull the ends through the loop and pull tight.
- Use hot glue to add some paper or fabric flowers to the side of your dreamcatcher.
- Have your child stamp out their preferred stamps then color them with crayons, colored pencils or even alcohol ink markers. My niece used alcohol ink markers.
- Place the coordinating die over the stamped image and hold it in place with low tack craft tape.
- Cut any excess cardstock off and place the die cardstock on one of the Sidekick plates. Place the other plate on top and send it through your Sidekick to cut the stamped image out.
- Add the stamped embellishments you created to your dreamcatcher with hot glue.
- Add on some gems for a bit of sparkle! My niece had some with sticky backs but we added a dot of Sizzix Express Glue to help them stick better to the textiles.
