Embellishment clusters are just that--grouped pieces of embellishment. In this tutorial, I'll show you how easy it is to create your own ephemeral embellishment clusters using Sizzix Stamp and Framelit sets.

Hello, crafty friend! I love ephemeral embellishment clusters. Every good embellishment cluster should have layers and texture. It might sound complicated, but with a stamp and die cut set, you can easily create your own custom ephemeral embellishment cluster!

For today's tutorial, I'm using Sizzix Stamp and Framelit sets from the 49 & Market collection. they have a bunch of sets with great little ephemeral pieces, like torn pages, labels, tags, tickets and more.

One of their newest sets, Creative Combos, can even be combined with some of their older releases, helping you build off your collection--and gives you a good excuse to return to some of those older items in your stash. I decided to pair Creative Combos with the Forever Journal Essentials and Bird Song Stamp and Framelit sets.

I also wanted to show that you can use the Build-A-Frame Stamp and Framelit set for more than just frames--these dies also make good border edgers and bits that you can tuck in between layers of cardstock or patterned paper mats!

So here's just how easy it is to create your own ephemeral embellishment clusters:
  • Die cut your ephemera shape from some cardstock, patterned paper or mixed media background. Be sure to cut several different sizes to create several different layers!
  • Stamp on your ephemera shape.
  • Add some additional distressing with your distressing tool if you want.
  • Build your layers of ephemera up, with the biggest on the bottom and the smallest on the top, offsetting them and adding foam adhesive in between the layers.
  • Add some ink to the edges of your ephemera either after or before glueing the layers together.

Super easy, right?! I made mine from die cut pieces of patterned paper and added a bit of stamping to the ephemera. I think stamping adds just that little extra bit and allows you to personalize and customize your ephemera. Even the same die cut can be stamped in different ways to create a totally different piece.

My biggest tip for this is to just play and have fun. Try die cutting and stamping a bunch and test out the different pieces together to see what composition you like best. This can even let you create a whole bunch of these at one time that you can then add to layouts, cards, tags and mini albums later on. It's an opportunity to get out of a creative rut and do some compartmentalized making if that's your jam.

Now to the other elements on this layout. I also used the Sweet Sprigs Stamp and Framelits set. I first stamped the flowers and leaves onto some patterned paper using embossing ink and then used black embossing powder. Then I die cut the flowers and leaves out with their coordinating Framelits.

I gave my flowers just a little shape before adding them to my layout by pushing up on the petals. I also layered my flowers onto the page with foam adhesive to give them more dimension. And I used two of the longer edges from the Build-A-Frame set, die cutting them from patterned paper and adding some of the stitch stamps to them. I tucked them in with the 2 photo mattes with some Express Glue.

Finally, I used the This or That Alphabet set and a nested heart die to create the title, "I Heart U." I cut each letter and the heart from some glitter cardstock from the Sizzix Muted Opulent Surfacez pack and then cut each 2 more times from the maroon patterned paper to make the title thicker and sturdier. This allows you to pop the title up with some foam adhesive, which I did.

And other than a few gems and premade embellishments, that's it for this scrapbook layout! I hope you enjoyed this quick and easy little tutorial and look at how to create and layer your own ephemeral embellishment clusters. Until next time, happy crafting!
