If you have ever wanted to make a dimensional card or give a card with a small gift, you are in luck! I've got a DIY gift box tutorial that is perfect for you!
Hey, crafty friend! Dimensional cards can be fun to give but it may leave you scratching your head as to how you hand it over when it doesn't fit in a regular envelope. Enter a DIY card or gift box.
This easy to make gift box doesn't need a special metal die or fancy tool. All you need is a scoring board and paper trimmer to make your own pretty box.
Now before I get into the tutorial, I first want to mention that it's last call for Prima Marketing's Summer Vibes Box, so if you want this box, don't wait!
I used the supplies that came in this box to make this set of gift boxes, but you'll get so much more than what I used for this project in that box! There is a ton of paper, ephemera, trinkets, flowers and other embellishments--all from the Golden Coast and Surfboard collections!
Okay, now back to the tutorial for your own DIY box. To make it super easy for you to make this box over and over again, I've got a FREE tutorial guide to download. In that guide, you'll get:
- Full color photo for reference
- The size card it will fit
- Visual specs, including measurements and where to trim, cut and score
- Step-by-step instructions, including how to add an optional window with acrylic.
While you are here, I just want to give you a few more tips that I think you will find helpful in creating your own gift box. First, I recommend using a nice thick cardstock to create your box. This will make it super sturdy. To add patterned papers, simply cut each piece to fit the different sides of the box and glue them on with your favorite liquid or roller adhesive.
Creating the window in the lid of the box is easier with a die cut machine, but you don't have to use a die and die cut machine. You could simply use a ruler, craft knife and self healing craft mat. I used some nesting rectangle dies from Spellbinders to help me create the window and the frame of gold foil cardstock around the window.
The final tip is also a product recommendation--and that is the Sizzix Scoring Board and Trimmer Tool. Why I recommend this tool is that its'a paper trimmer and scoring board all in one and you can easily switch between Imperial and Metric measurement systems by flipping the rulers and scoring board over. So even if you are in Europe, you'll be able to easily flip over to Imperial to create this gift box without having to convert my measurements in inches!
If you are in the United States, this box is the perfect size to hold a package of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups and/or a Hershey chocolate bar! I added a slightly less dimensional and more simple card with each of those candies to both gift boxes. But you could also put in Ghirardelli Squares, Lindt Truffles, Ferrero Roche or some parchment paper with homemade treats!
I hope that you enjoyed this fun paper craft idea. Don't forget to download your free instruction guide that includes all the measurements, and until next time, happy crafting!
