How to Create Texture with Cardstock on Your Mixed Media Canvas Projects

by - 8:34:00 AM

One of my favorite ways to add textural layers to a mixed media canvas is by using die cut cardstock. The new Seth Apter Sizzix collection is the perfect set of tools to help you create abstract, versatile layers that you can make all your own!

Hey, crafty friend! The highly anticipated Sizzix Seth Apter collection dropped earlier this month and this week, I have a fun mixed media video tutorial for you sharing some ideas for creating texture and layers with die cuts. It premiers later this week, so be sure to go over to my channel and hit the subscribe button if you haven't already, then turn on notifications by tapping the bell so you get a reminder of the premier of the video!

My tutorial video premiers June 5, 2025 at 9:00 AM Pacific/12:00 PM Eastern and I'll be in the chat live with you to answer any questions you have. After the premier, the video will be available for replay on my channel.

Seth designed his collection to be abstract and versatile, giving you everything you need to make this collection all your own. There are so many ways to use these Thinlits and this is just one way.

"Goth Adrienne" came out to play for this particular project, but I have a feeling "Shabby Chic Adrienne" will be in charge of the next project with this collection. That way, you can truly see just how versatile this collection is!

Here's just a few other ideas for creating with the new Seth Apter collection:
  • Cut Waffles from acetate or masking material to create a stencil for art pastes or sprays.
  • Create a repeating cardstock background with the top layers of Twisters and Roundabouts.
  • Weave together Tracks for a fun basket texture and pair with flowers.
  • Use Tracks to hold floral or leaf die cuts.
  • Combine any element from the collection with gears for a fun steampunk project.
