How to Use the Sizzix Snap and Swap Thinlits with Mini Album Junk Journal Tutorial
Sizzix has some new technology that is game changing for die cutters! In this video tutorial, I'll show how to use the new Snap and Swap Thinlits to make a fun little file folder mini album.
Hey, crafty friend! Sizzix just released a new collection with some brand new technology called Snap and Swap, which essentially lets you customize your metal dies to cut different things. Sounds amazing, right? Wait until you see it in action!
The Snap and Swap system offers a base die with a slot for interchangeable or swappable pieces that can "snap" into place. Simply fit the key shaped piece into the keyhole and the two parts of the die line up perfectly!
You can shop the full supply list for this project below!
This means you can have large dies, like this File Folder die, but without a bunch of large pieces that drive up the price of the die set or take up lots of storage room! The file folder die has a base piece with one open edge that you can swap out for different tabs to create a file folder, or a plain piece that creates a little folio cover.
You can use this File Folder Snap and Swap Thinlits set with other Thinlits released in this collection, including the Snap and Swap Pockets and Snap and Swap Tags. I even noticed that the large edger option for the Tags fits the File Folder! So you might see me trying out some fun options in my next project with this collection!
But first, let's get into this project.
I won't go into everything here, because I really do think you should see these dies in action, so be sure to watch my YouTube tutorial above. I show just how easily the pieces of these Snap and Swap dies go together, plus some other great things in this video, like tips for getting your sandwich inserted into your Sidekick for those little dies, some stitching on a non-stitching die and more!
But I will talk about some of the things I paired up with the Snap and Swap File Folder, as I don't go into too much detail about those, or the video would have been an hour long! I used Prima Marketing's Serene Petals 12x12 patterned papers to die cut the folio cover and file folders from.
I also used the 6x6 pad for making little pockets from. These pockets are the perfect size for holding some 3x4 journaling cards from the same collection. Plus, I added some of the cardstock stickers from this collection as an embellishment.
I also created some of my own ephemera, by stamping and die cutting on some of the backgrounds from those patterned papers, plus some light green Sizzix cardstock. I used the Bird Song, Forever Journal Essentials and the Painted Pencil Leaves stamp and die sets from Sizzix. I used my Stencil and Stamp Platform to stamp with some archival ink, then die cut the elements out with the coordinating dies.
To add to the pockets, I also die cut some tags from patterned paper using the Journal Essential Pages Thinlits set. I think this Thinlits set to pick up before it sells out as it pairs nicely with this newly released Snap and Swap collection. Just imagine the amazing junk journal you can put together with file folders, tags and pockets!
I added some stitching to the cover of this album with some DMC floss--it's actually one that I coordinated to a color of Sizzix Muted Opulent cardstock, but it just so happened to coordinate nicely with the Prima Serene Petals collection too!
The stitching was done on the debossed stitched rectangle in the File Folder Thinlits set. I used the debossed stitches as a guide for poking holes and then stitched with 3 strands of the DMC floss using a running stitch.
Finally, I used a couple of other textiles, the Vivant Lurex Cream Cord for adding to the tops of the tags. I also used some crinkled seam binding ribbon to wrap around the entire folio and tie it closed to keep it all together, since this is a nicely stuffed "junk" folio!
Don't forget to watch the full tutorial video to see this new Snap and Swap system in use and to see the folio come together; and until next time, happy crafting!
