Sizzix Studio Dreamy Mixed Media Scrapbook Layout Tutorial
Sizzix Studio isn't just for art journaling! This dreamy mixed media layout pairs stencils and stamps with foil, flowers and ephemera.
Hey, crafty friend! I'm putting two of my favorite things together--mixed media and scrapbooking! The Sizzix Studio line is geared toward art journalers, but that doesn't mean you can't use it for other things. I've used past releases to make embroidery projects, but today, I'm focusing on scrapbooking!
So let's just get right into this little tutorial! First I cut a matte of white cardstock and place it in my Registration Press tool with the stencil adapter. I add the dreamcatcher stencil over the cardstock then apply a purple paint through the stencil. The long palette knife from the Sizzix Effectz Multi-Tool is perfect for apply this paint.
You can shop all of the supplies used in this project below! The aqua paper flower set is unavailable, but I've added a similar one from the same collection for you to shop!
I like to place my stencils in a stencil bath (Tupperware with water and soap) to soak while I finish my projects. I let this stenciled piece of paper dry and move on to applying TCW's Tacky When Dry medium through the star stencil onto my 12x12 patterned paper background, again using my palette knife. I used the Aquarelle Dreams collection from Prima with this Sizzix Studio stamp and stencil set--they are a perfect match!
This stencil also goes into my stencil bath and I set this background aside while the medium dries. While this dries, I matte the 3x4 photo to a piece of patterned paper from the 6x6 paper pad. I also fussy cut some large floral clusters and a dreamcatcher from the 12x12 paper pad. I use a swivel craft knife and self-healing craft matte for this.
Once the medium on the background paper is dry, I apply Spellbinders Lavender Petal Glimmer Foil to the medium. I cut a small bit off the roll and then use the brayer from the Multi-Tool to press an initial amount of foam onto the tacky medium. I then use my fingers to help apply to the spots that are still sticky but not covered in foil.
Next, I use some of the star stamps to add even more to my background. I stamp a couple of different stars using Tim Holtz Distress Oxide in Peacock Feather and Salvaged Patina. The matted photo gets adhered to the stenciled dreamcatcher cardstock with some foam adhesive. Then I glue this to the layout background. I cover the photo with a scrap piece of cardstock and splatter the layout with the Scrapbook.com White Lustre Brush and Lavender Glitter Brush.
I then use some of the Scrapbook.com 2 inch wide double-sided adhesive roll to cover some white cardstock. I leave the backing paper on and run this through my Sidekick with some leaf sprigs from the Fin Stems and Floral Layers Thinlits. I peel the backing paper off the die cut and apply the foil to create shiny leaves.
I create little floral clusters on two of the corners of the photo, using the fussy cut ephemera, a piece of ephemera with a sentiment, the foiled leaves, and some small paper flowers. I also pop on some fussy cut butterflies.
I apply a little bit of Prima's Soft Matte Gel to the paper flowers and sprinkle on some of the Scrapbook.com Shimmer Flakes for an iridescent touch. Finally, I add some iridescent dew drops to the layout. And that's it! I hope you feel inspired to use your Sizzix Studio stencils and stamps on your next scrapbook layout!
