Hey, crafty friend! Sizzix released some new stamps that are perfect for the Stamp and Spin tool plus creating pattern backgrounds! I wasn't quite sure where the project was going when I started it. All I knew was that I wanted to create a floral ring and use some watercolors. (You can shop the full list of supplies used below.)

This project took an unexpected mixed media turn, but I just adore how it turned out! Now let's get into the tutorial so you can learn how easy it is to stamp on canvas.

For this project, you'll want to use canvas board, rather than a stretched wrap canvas that is mounted on. a frame. Canvas boards have canvas attached to a bit of thick paperboard, making them the perfect candidate for stamping on. Framed canvas is a little harder to use as you'll have to find something to fill in the gap in the back to provide resistance when pressing your stamp to the canvas surface.

But before we get into the canvas part, I actually started with stamping on some mixed media cardstock. I used my Sizzix Stamp and Spin accessory attached to the Stencil and Stamp tool to create a floral ring. Since these stamps overlap a bit, I started by stamping out the flowers I wanted to be the "top layer."

Then I placed some 4" mint tape into the stamping platform and stamped out the same stamp several times. I fussy cut the images on the mint tape and then used that as a mask, placing it over the stamped images on my cardstock.

Next I placed the next stamp onto the Stamp and Spin wheel and stamped that out to complete the ring of flowers.

I used several Art Philosophy watercolor palettes to color the flowers in this stamped floral ring. I even added a little shimmery watercolor on top to create  a shimmery effect, which is hard to see in the photos--you've got to get it at just the right angle to catch it!

Once the watercolors were dry, I fussy cut the flower ring out then used a nested circle die to cut out the center. I then stamped one of the sentiments with watermark ink onto a piece of vellum and used gold embossing powder. The vellum was trimmed down and mounted to the back of the flower ring with some foam adhesive.

Now to the canvas! I placed the canvas board onto the sticky grid of the Stencil and Stamp tool then stamped out some of those same flowers with watermark ink. Then I used white embossing powder.

To add color, I used a couple of Distress Spray Stains and Distress Spritz. The white embossing powder acts like a resist, allowing the stamped image to show through! I let this dry overnight (you don't want to use a heat tool to dry it or you could mess up your embossed images).

Don't waste your leftover Distress sprays on your craft surface. Use a piece of scrap white mixed media cardstock to soak it all up. I used this for die cutting a couple of leaves to add to the project.

The next day, I glued the watercolor floral ring to the center of the canvas with more foam adhesive and some of Prima's Heavy Body Gel. Then I tucked some Prima flowers and the die cut leaves in. The finishing touch was adding a few sparkly gems!

I hope you give heat embossing on canvas a whirl, and until next time, happy crafting!
