Easy DIY Valentine's Explosion Box

by - 3:30:00 PM

Creating a special Valentine's Day gift is easy with this customizable explosion box from Scrapbook.com!

Hey, crafty friend! I was recently sent the Kraft Explosion Box from Scrapbook.com to play with and this box is so cool and fun! It comes with everything you need to create an interactive explosion box--the large box itself, all of the pockets, interactive elements to go in the pockets and a mini box for the center.

You can use whatever you want to fill your box and all you need is a paper trimmer to decorate it with fun patterned papers. Then you can add elements such as die cuts, stickers, rub on transfers, gems and so much more. I added Prima flowers to the top for a fun 3D effect on the outside and then I included some white mats to add photos to later and plenty of tags to write notes on for my Valentine--but you can do this for any holiday or birthday!

I've got a supply list you can shop below for the products I used in my own explosion box if see something you love!

I won't get into a detailed tutorial as this was mostly cut, add a little sewing and glue elements together. But if you want to cut rounded corners, I highly recommend the Sizzix Scoring Board and Trimmer Tool. It's got built in punches and the corner rounder punch is the perfect size for this explosion box!

I also recommend getting a 1.5 inch circle punch to notch off your papers for the back of the pockets. I cut my paper to fit the pocket, slipped it into the pocket, used a pencil to mark the notch, then cut out a half circle using the circle punch.

Another tip is that when you fill your box with stuff, that you use mostly liquid glue and tape runner. I used only small amounts of foam adhesive and kept it to 1mm thick. You don't want to finish with your box and then find that it's too full to close it properly!

I hope that you enjoyed a more detailed look at this particular project. I'm really happy with how this turned out. I used mostly Scrapbook.com exclusives, but I tucked in a few Prima, Sizzix and Spellbinders products. I'm thinking that my next explosion box will be the White one and that it will be all Prima Marketing products. Who would love a tutorial for that? Let me know in the comments below, and until next time, happy crafting!
