Celestial Finnabair Mixed Media Tutorial with new Limited Edition Liquid Acrylics and Stencils

 As a teenager, I loved stargazing and pastel color palettes. So I made the mixed media panel of my teenage dreams with these limited edition Finnabair Liquid Acrylic Paint sets and Stencil sets!

Hey, crafty friend! When I was a teenager, I loved stargazing. There is something so humbling about staring into space and realizing that your tiny existence is a part of this vast universe. I also think a lot about the passage of time when stargazing. What we see on Earth is light from millions of years ago, which makes stargazing a bit like time traveling as you are peering back into time.

And I loved stargazing so much that I decorated my room with a celestial theme. I was totally into the "whimsigoth" scene of the late 90s and early oughts. So much so, that I painted my bedroom with a sky scene replete with a sun/moon and clouds, then painstakingly added little dots of glow in the dark paint to create the night sky. I even added actual constellations to my sky. It was incredible and each night was like sleeping under the stars! I just wish all the whimsigoth home decor items came in pastel hues.

So when I got my hands on the the Celestial Stencil Set and the Sentimental and Dreamy Liquid Acrylic Sets, I just had to create the whimsigoth mixed media canvas of my teenage dreams! (You can shop the my supply list below for the new limited edition sets along with some of the other products I used.)

I started with an 8x8 round canvas panel and applied modeling paste through one of the Celestial stencils with the Zodiac wheel. Since this stencil didn't fill up my entire canvas, I added some texture through one of the Shabby Romantic stencils along the edges.

Once dry, I used the Fresh Mint, Atoll Blue and Lavender Liquid Acrylics to create an ombre background. Water will help you spread your paint and create a more shabby, whimsical look to your paints. I also added that same ombre color palette to one of the Redesign Astrid frame. And can I just say how much I adore the hue that the Atoll Blue and Fresh Mint create! It is the perfect shade of aqua!!!!

Okay, moving on from my fan girling! 😅 I paired this Celestial stencil with one of my older, favorite Finn moulds, the Stars and Moons Mould. Now if you don't have this mould, don't fret! There are plenty of other amazing Finn moulds you can pair with this for a whimsigoth look, like the Birds and Bats, Nocturnal Insects, Vintage Ladies, or even the Clockwork Sparrows.

I painted one of the moons from this mould with the Titanium White Liquid Acrylic and the stars with the same ombre palette as the background. Once dry, I added the White Pearl Metallique Wax for shine. I also added the wax to the highlights of the Astrid Mould and the stars.

Then I glued the moon and frame moulds on, floating them on top of some flowers from the In Full Bloom collection. The stars got added directly to the canvas.

I added a little bit of the wax to one of the Scrapyard Dragonflies and added it on top of a flower, then popped on some of the Finnabair Art Pebbles. The final step was adding a little bit of iridescent glitter to the flowers and dragonfly with a bit of Soft Matte Gel.
