Summer Colors with Prima's In Full Bloom Collection
My summers are a mix of colorful, manicured gardens and golden hay fields, pockmarked by an old barn or two. I brought that summer feeling I have into this one mixed media project!
Hey, crafty friends! Summer has officially arrived and the Prima Design Team was challenged to use the In Full Bloom collection to celebrate the colors of summer. I live in a semi-rural area where there is a mix of suburbs and farms. So my summers are a cross between colorful and manicured suburban gardens, and the old barns and hay fields of the farms.
To start this project, I used Finn's Modeling Paste through a stencil to create texture on a canvas round. Once it was dry, I used watered down Impasto Paint in Wild Iris to add color to the canvas. I let it pool around the stenciling to highlight that texture. (You can find a list of most of the supplies I used in this project at the bottom of this post.)
To add color and texture to the mini MDF barn door, I started with gesso, then applied Linen Impasto Paint. Once that was dry, I added some White Crackle Paste with a palette knife. Once that was dry and had cracked, I used some watered down Linen paint to age up the crackle a bit.
I also painted some Leafy Blossom Redesign moulds with the Linen Impasto Paint. To highlight the texture, I added the Celestial Metallique Wax, then dry brushed with white gesso.
I also added some of the smallest flowers from the In Full Bloom collection to a mini heart shaped grapevine wreath after dry brushing it with gesso. Then al that was left to do was layer on flowers, lace, the moulds and the door.
I added one of the pretty purple butterflies from the Elegant Wings set. But I also fussy cut some of the yellow butterflies from the 6x6 and 12x12 paper pad, adding these to the flowers on the canvas.
Finishing touches included Memory Hardware Pearls, Glitter, Art Stones and a chipboard sentiment sticker. I hope that you love this little project and that it brings you to the edge of suburbia with a view of golden hay fields, like I have every summer. Until next time, happy crafting!
