Sometimes even the dumbest mistake can turn into something glorious.

I don't make stupid mistakes often, but when I do, they are really dumb. It's oaky, though. We all do it occasionally. Sometimes those mistakes turn out to be the best thing you ever did!

I really wanted to go big or go home with the new Kitsch Flamingo Distress color. I though it would be fun to create a tone-on-tone effect using the Oxide and Embossing Glaze, but on the first try, I made an egregious error!

What was that mistake? I failed to dry my Distress Oxide Ink with my heat tool before moving on to the next step. I started by blending just the Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide onto a white card. I should have stopped to dry my ink here, but I was so excited to be playing with Kitsch Flamingo, I just moved right on to the Embossing Glaze part. Ooops!

I realized my mistake when I began dumping loads of the Embossing Glaze on my card. It was too late by then and I decided to just go ahead and and emboss it and see what happened. The worst that could happen would be a solid embossed background. No sense in wasting precious product...

But once I started heating it, I realized that the Embossing Ink had created a watermark type effect. I hadn't sealed my work with micro glaze so the Oxide reacted with the embossing ink. And because the glazes aren't opaque, they change based on the colors underneath. My project was saved thanks to the genius that is Tim Holtz! I knew the Distress Oxide ink would interact with the embossing ink, but I wasn't sure it would be enough of a reaction to make a difference under the glaze, but it was. It's a subtle tone-on-tone, but it's there.

So after making that giant mistake, I had to create a card as I intended.  This time, after I blended Kitsch Flamingo Distress Oxide onto my card front, I dried the ink so the embossing glaze wouldn't stick to it. Once I felt it was thoroughly dried, I set my stencil over it and used my embossing ink dabber to apply ink for the glaze. 

After applying the glaze, there were a few spots I needed to brush clean with a small brush, but it wasn't bad. I heated it with my tool and like magic, I got my intended tone-on-tone card background. 

On a flat card front, I blended Kitsch Flamingo, Worn Lipstick and Wilted Violet, spritzed and dried for my die cut sentiment. I cut two strips of white cardstock for the sentiment to sit on then added a few pink gems to finish off both cards!
