Texture and glitter collide in this ocean-inspired mixed media tag. It features lots of Tim Holtz Distress products as well as the mermaid effect paste from Finnabair.
All that glitters is under the sea! I was recently asked by a family member to create a tag for a co-workers birthday. She grew up by the ocean and now living in land-locked Colorado, I hear she misses it.
The base of this tag and all the die cuts are made from white cardstock. The color is all from inks, mists and crayons.
Using my Tim Holtz blending brush, I created a gradient of blue oxide inks, starting with Speckled Egg, transitioning to Broken China and then ending with Faded Jeans at the bottom of the tag. For the fishnet die cut, I inked white cardstock in Walnut Stain and Vintage Photo oxides.
Then I misted the tag and the brown inked cardstock, dried them and cut the fishnet die. Next I added Distress Micro Glaze to the tag, buffing off the excess, to protect my work for the next step. Using a stencil and a palette knife, I spread a thin layer of the mermaid effect paste onto the tag and set it aside to dry.
On the sand dollar, starfish and seahorse die cuts, I applied grit paste then set them aside to dry. Once dry, I sprayed the sand dollar with a light tan color mist. I used Cracked Pistachio distress spray stain on the seahorse, then dripped a bright blue color mist on it. For the starfish, I applied some Spiced Marmalade distress crayon and then used a water brush pen to spread the color. Finally, I added a small spritz of Fossilized Amber to the starfish.
I used my heat tool to help dry the inks and colors on the die cuts. I then took a palette knife and applied some Ranger Stickles glitter gel in nebula to some white flowers and to the sand dollar and starfish die cuts. I also applied some of the mermaid effect paste to the seahorse.
Once dry, I glued all of my elements onto my tag using foam adhesive and heavy body gel. Finally, I added a sticker sentiment, applied a few Pinkfresh jewels using Smart Glue and topped off the tag with some crinkle ribbon.
