Rainbow Insect ATCs: Scrapbook.com March 2021 Handmade Challenge
It's time for another monthly challenge and this time I created some bright and beautiful insect ATCs!
This month's color palette was a bright and fun rainbow of hues. But rather than incorporating all the colors into one single project, I wanted to create a set of ATCs with each card featuring one of the 5 colors on the mood board.
I started by cutting out five 3x4" base of watercolor cardstock and setting those aside. Next I cut the layers I would be inking on, measuring 2.75 x 3.75" and cut from flat solar white cardstock. I used 2 shades of distress ink in each of the hues to create a gradient or ombre look. I splattered each with water and dried them.
Next, I stamped each inked background with a script stamp using Distress Oxide in weathered wood. I set these aside to dry while stamping out my butterflies and insects in corresponding hues of Distress oxide, and embossing them with clear embossing powder.
I die cut each insect and also used the new Impresslit floral frame to cut out 5 frames from silver kraft cardstock. Using a matching hue of Distress crayons, I added color to the frames, rubbing the crayon on, spritzing and wiping away the excess.
I also used the crayons to add a bit more color to the insects, brushing it on with a water brush pen. Once the watercolor was dry, I added a bit of shimmer to each bug with a glitter brush marker.
Then I stamped some sentiments in the same Oxide inks I just used for the bugs and again embossed with clear embossing powder. I cut these sentiments out using a banner die cut and also cut out a few funky florals.
I then began glueing everything down, using a variety of adhesives including a glue roller, heavy body gel and foam. To finish off each card, I splattered each with a coordinating distress ink and then added a few jewels using Distress Collage Matte Medium.
